Can anyone recommend a bike rack that will fit a coupe without damaging the paint work. Both me and my friend have both started abit of downhill biking and both have coupes so we'd share the cost etc

I know you can get a roof rack to fit a coupe but it seems like they are a lot like rocking horse shit.

Thanks.

You won't get a downhill bike on the back of a coupe without damaging the boot in my opinion and roof bars are like rocking horse sh*t.

Too much weight on a flimsy boot lid - I had a Paddy Hopkirk which was about as good as you could get fit-wise and still managed to bend the boot lid out of shape a bit using it with 2 dh frames (wheels in the boot) and they used to wobble about at the sight of a corner/pothole.

Best bet is wheels in the boot in a wheel bag and bikes on the back seat (either in a bag or with plenty of sheets). I used to get my dh bike (Fox 40s and 780mm Renthals) on the back seat before fitting fixed back seats and harnesses.

Other option - removable tow bar if you can find one that'll fit? I now use a Pendal tow bar mounted rack on my Alfa and its 1000% safer, no wobble regardless of how you drive. Wouldn't go back to a strapped on carrier.

Good luck, I kicked my self for missing one go cheap on eBay and another for sale on here a few years back.

Ended up getting a daily more suited to carrying the bikes and retired the coupe to weekend fun.

Out if Interest what downhill stuff are you getting into?

Sorry - just wondering if you'd started racing or just getting into it doing a few uplifts, local spots etc.

If you're up in Carlisle there is some cracking riding up that way, Ae Forest, Innerleithen, Hamsterley to name a few, all within sensible distance.
