I've done it and without any hoist or trolley to get it under the car, and i'll be doing it all again soon

Yeah i have done the under car route before. Not easy. Got a hoist 2nd time and was much better..

Done Alfa V6s in and out of a 155 from underneath on my own. Wasn't too bad.
Front of the car up very high on X-large axle stands. Engine wheeled underneath on a transmission jack (just as a stable low platform on wheels (also used a furniture dolly in the past, sump and edge of bellhousing sat nicely in that), then hoist to lift it all into place.
