After 85,000 miles and just over 7 years, I think it's all over.

Driving home last night there was a bit of a smoky moment, and it refuses to rev properly above about 3,000 rpm.

Hoping it was just a boost hose, I took it to Gaz this morning, who couldn't find anything, but it was smoking a fair bit.

Out came the compression tester.

2,3 & 4 were ok, but 1 and 5 were down at about 75psi.

I think it's time to move on *sniff*.

Sorry to hear this Steve. Is it not worth repairing then?

Well, possibly, and if it wasn't a daily driver, I probably would. But throwing more money at a car than it is actually worth seems not a great plan right now.

Given the turbo is original, and the clutch is on 60,000+ then they'll probably be up for replacement in the next 12-18 months as well, so there are likely to be a couple of big bills on the horizon too.

If I knew I could throw a grand or so at it, and have a couple of years /24,000 miles relatively expense free it would be a different story I think.

I was planni g on replacing the front speakers and fitting a dab radio this weekend too....
