My Beko washing machine (bought from Currys) isn't working properly, most of the time it won't go in to spin cycle so I have to shut it down, take out all the washing, wring it out (it's sodden) and then put it into spin cycle. This is time consuming and it means I can't put it on and go out as it just goes on and on, trying to go into spin cycle. I've had a technician come and look at it and he reckoned that I wasn't putting enough in, causing an imbalance in the drum, I've tried various methods now, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This wouldn't be a problem if it was in warranty but it's 4 years old. Do I have any consumer rights? product not performing as sold? Apologies for the rather dull post but I'm loathed to buy another one, my last one cost me 20 quid and lasted 15years! Cheers!

Ask for your money back from Currys under the Sale of Goods Act on the basis that it has not lasted a reasonable time. You will have to put up a fight and threaten to take them to the small claims court however. How much did it cost? Do you have the receipt? When did it start going wrong? Any other people reported similar problems?

I think this is now quite typical of consumer goods being manufactured to last until the warranty expires - no longer. We had a washing machine for about 10 years before it expired so bought the same (expensive) make again. Lasted 2 years which was the warranty so were called out an engineer at our cost who told us that pretty much all of them now use components from the same (lowest bid) manufacturer so no point in buying anything other than the cheapest. As a side note, we are now on our 3rd vax as they keep breaking but vax just send us a new one each time so I can't really complain other than the inconvenience.

Thanks, yes I (remarkably) still have the receipt, it was £210, it's been doing this for about a year but it's very rarely used tbh as I do a lot of my laundry elsewhere.

I had *exactly* the same problem with mine last month and it was down to the filter being blocked. I know you say you've had somebody out, but it's an easy job to clean the filter yourself so I'd just check that isn't the issue.

Well…..problem solved. Thanks to Andrew for that advice, why that knob didn't check something as simple as that I don't know, he basically charged me £30 quid for a 15 minute 'how to put clothes in a washing machine' tutorial. Bell end.

So instead of wanting to know how to chase Currys through the courts for a new washing machine you want to know how to get your £30 back from the crap technician Glad I could help, though.

That's like a mechanic looking at my coupe and charging me to fix a load of faults and it still doesn't run properly. Oh hang on, that's normal!
