I should explain. I’ve loved cars since I was about 8 years old, my bedroom wall was covered in 288 GTO’s and Countaches, I went to car shows for my birthday and drew the profile of the rear end of the 911 over and over again in my school books.
The first car I owned when I was 17 was a 1 litre Metro, I had a Hyundai Pony a Vaxhaull Astra and a Nissan Almera and although they gave me my freedom I never loved them.
Then I bought my coupe. It’s was amazing. I loved it. It was like owning a little Ferrari...sort of. A dream come true.
I've had to moved on (got an M3 last year) which has meant getting rid of the Coupe - which I've hated and avoided for ages. The fact is because it’s got a few little dents, modifications and plenty of miles on the clock it's worth hardly anything. I spent thousands on the coupe over the years, spent hour after hour looking after it and cleaning it, traveled something like 50,000 miles in it and loved every minute. Selling it for £600-£800 just doesn't seem right.

Happily a solution has presented it's self.

Me and my mates are going on the Mongol Rally. The idea is you get a 1 litre car, you drive from here to Mongolia and you try and raise some money for charity in the process. Instead of just asking other people to donate money whilst I get to go on an amazing adventure I’ve decided the Coupe should go to Charity. I’m asking people to donate £5 to the charities we are supporting and they will be entered into a draw to win my coupe. We are supporting The John Hartson Foundation for Testicular Cancer, Cool Earth and Lotus Child. There are links to the Charities web sites on the just giving page. The car has 1 years MOT from today.

So if you want another coupe, want a full set of spares for your current car, realize there is a few quid to be made breaking a 20vt, or simply fancy selling it if you win please support us and this noble cause!

I’d love it to go to a forum member, but I will be offering this out to friends and family via facebook too.

So:
Step 1: Go here

Virgin Money Giving

Step 2: Donate some multiple of £5 depending on how many times you want your name in the draw. MAKE SURE you enter a name in the 'name' field at the bottom of the page.

Step 3: Email therotteneggs@gmail.com. Include the name you entered on the donation page, confirm you want to be entered and tell us your name!

Step 4: Await the draw! This will take place en route to Mongolia and the result will be announced on our Facebook page. Obviously we will also be emailing whoever wins.

Does anybody else remember the Forum member who did the Mongol Rally a few years ago? I think he used to own a yellow 16VT.

Can't remember his name but he wrote a book about it on his return.

Mind you, the name Jon rings a bell..... Will have a hunt for him.

P.S. Great idea boonman. Good luck with it. Have you thought of doing a blog?

John Irving was the chap who did this (in 2006). I might still have his book about it somewhere.

I do have an email address for him I can pass on - PM if required.

Thats the chap. Here's a link to the book. I've got a copy myself and it was a good insight into what to expect. I'd lend you mine but I lent it to a friend (who did the rally) and he hasn't given it back yet.
