Needed an injector replaced asap so went to a local 'Italian car specialist'.

Error codes read, injector replaced, and with my wallet just under £290 lighter, I drove away, parked up then started the car 1/2 hour later.
Exact same problem... Running on 4.

Great news though, they've promised to sort out the problem smile

...And they only want an extra £220.

I'm so censored happy!

They probably incorrectly assumed the injector numbering order as 1-2-3-4-5 from left (cambelt end) to right, instead of following the firing order (1-2-4-5-3) to arrive at the correct numbering (to match the fault code reader) of injectors as (from left to right) 1-2-5-3-4 (with thanks to GrahamL and others, see here)

So they probably replaced a perfectly good injector leaving the dodgy one still there. Presumably the injector (fault) light came up before you went to the garage, was cleared when you left, and came back again later?

Easy enough to see which injector is faulty, as long as you wait for the car to start running on only four cylinders.

Just disconnect and reconnect the leads, one at a time from each injector, until you reach the cylinder which shows no change when you disconnect the lead. Simple really.

I've changed a total of three myself in two different Coupés and the longest I've taken to do the job is three hours and that's really slow and usually when having problems with the bolts holding the fuel rail onto the cylinder head.

On that basis, a decent garage, especially one claiming to be Italian specialists, should be able to do job much quicker than the price suggests, unless their hourly rate is on a par with barristers and neurosurgeons.

There's a decent how to on here and I bought all of my injectors as "known good secondhand" from Joe at FCSS.

Don't want to see you get fleeced.

Oh and none of the injectors that I have replaced have failed.

They're saying when I took the car in it showed errors for two injectors.
They cleared the codes, road tested and only one error came back up. So, they only replaced the one injector.

Obviously they then didn't re-start the car after half an hour (as I had told them caused the problem!) or they'd have found the issue was still there!

The extra £220 aside, to rub salt into the wounds, they had the Coop all day yesterday before ringing me to say they needed the loan car back and I'd have to wait 'til Monday before they had the new injector!

They'll be getting another call later.

Hmmm....two injectors go down at the same time....not impossible I guess, but why didn't they inform you at the time and advise you that another one might be on the way out?

Did the car ever feel that it had dropped from five to three cylinders?

Also, the quickest I (an amateur) changed one of these out, was about an hour and a half and that was by the roadside!

Where do they get £290 from and a subsequent £220?

Personally, if I can't do a job myself, I take it to Joe at FCSS and he's 170 miles from where I live. Always better to take it to a proper Fiat Coupé specialist. I've had poor experiences from so called Fiat/Alfa specialists.

The Coupé deserves better.

How much they charging per injector? If I remember a new one was around a ton when I last looked. It sounds like they might be trying it on. With a cold engine the job takes 30 minutes.

Echo what everyone else is saying. I changed injectors loads of times on my car and it doesn't take that long.

They should have told you exactly what the error message was. It could be that its just the wiring is dodgey. The ultimate test is to remove an injector and swap it with another one nearby. If the problem moves then its definately the injector at fault.

They charged for 2 hours labour @£60+VAT/hour. Injector was £120+VAT (total £288)
So, were they to fit another injector next week as planned, I'd have shelled out a tad over £500

Just pee'd off to be paying labour charges again when they should have fixed the first time furious

I with you mate, for the sake of good workmanship and return work it does seem VERY short sighted. I've done this job numerous times and it does not take 2 hours. And it too have had two injectors go down together. So it is possible for your fault to occur. Good luck, try charming them with the treat of negative feedback wink

Also you may want to ask for the box's the injectors came in as some sort of proof they are new and or ask where they got them from! plus your old original parts back!

There is no point refurbishing them as the problem is usually internal (poor connection which gets worst with heat) so i dont believe they can be repaired?

They are not made any more so are hard to get hold of locally if not impossible, but do come up on ebay etc listed as new at around £90 but generally not from the uk
