Can you see my problem? Ah, no, your eyes are fine Mr Cappo, it's just that you've bought a second Mooner! So, first things first, I never set out to buy another Mooner! As a few of you will know, we have been casually looking for a Coupe for MrsC for a while now, since mine retains pride of place as a garage princeling who only comes out for high days and holidays. We went after a few and were either too late. or they were real sheds. This one suddenly popped up this week, and based solely on me interrupting Rog's holiday to get his opinion on it (he knows the car), I bought it sight unseen over the phone. It was too good an opportunity to miss. The seller was slightly blown away when I called him and, after asking a few questions, asked where I should sent the deposit! It's a genuine 2000 Plus, complete with the requisite jizzbag seats. Condition-wise, well, for a 14 year old car it's pretty good. There are quite a lot of stone chips on the front, but other than that the rest of the marks on it are very minor. It's showing 146k miles, but it drives as least as well as mine does on 80k. Few little things to sort out but aren't there with any cars of this age, really. There is a massive pile of history with the car and I suspect it has been in FCCUK ownership in the past, possibly twice or more. Someone has spent a lot of time, money and energy on it. However, we didn't want another show pony, but a car which MrsC can use and drive daily, and this fits the bill very well. The only apparent mods are 35mm Eibachs (probably appearing on a For Sale post soon) and a s/s exhaust which is quite fruity. Overall very pleased with it, although it's a bit surreal seeing them side by side on the drive in the same colour. I do know that my telephone purchase technique beat a couple of other potential punters by a gnat's, so guys, sorry about that, but he who dares, Rodders…

Howard & Hilda car choice Yeah, I did think that but it was too good to miss! Might get it wrapped to avoid confusion!

They will both look great when you decide on a top coat colour.

Ahhh so it was you who bought it over the phone unseen. Guilty m'lud. Were you one of the other potential purchasers? I know there was someone (whose name I have, "J") also in contact with Rog and someone else who had issues sorting out travel arrangements?

Both look very nice Cappo! I currently have twin portos one is the slightly uglier sibling though. My other half would love a broomy coupe....but she hates spending money on cars. Don't think I can afford to keep two on the road at the moment!

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. Really pleased with the car, such a bargain, and because I drive my own one so rarely, it has reminded me what I'm missing! I think mine will have to see a little more tarmac and a little less garage carpet in future!
Only plans for the new one are a return to standard suspension, and to clear the airbag lights (have been successful with this on my own car with MultiECUScan a good few times, I plugged it in yesterday and surprise surprise, both seat air bags are showing a fault. Usually it's a question of just cleaning the connectors and resetting, but it started tipping down yesterday before I could get that far.
Need to have a go at the washers too as they are just dribbling out but the usual suspects will probably sort that. It's all just minor stuff really, the sort of thing you might just live with on your own car but sort out on one you've just bought.
Wondered what the hell the noise in my ear was yesterday as I was driving it until I worked out that it needed the usual coat of Vaseline to the grab handle/headrest interface!
Even in the current weather the car is holding 2.5bar oil pressure on tickover once fully warmed up (3 bar when driving) which is pretty amazing for a 146k miler. Possible that the bottom end has been done at some point I guess. Pulls very strongly.
However, most importantly of all, the car's new owner is also very pleased with it!!

Great stuff Cappo. Nice to hear the wife is pleased with it. Interesting use of vasoline? I hated the noise so much I took the grab handles off, having just repaired a faulty one!
