hi all, looking for some ideas when the paintwork is complete...
has anyone fitted an "oversized" yellow uk rear plate to completely fill the recess on the rear bumper? keeping font, height, dimensions etc exactly the same, just a larger piece of perspex that it is printed onto.
and similarly, at the front, a smaller plate to avoid overlapping the intake designs - again, nothing to infringe on font height illegalities etc, just a slightly smaller subtlety.
thanks in advance...

I haven't done this but I've been thinking about a narrower plate on the front recently. Now I'm tidying the exterior up I think this will be on my list and it could certainly be slimmed down without reducing the font size...
F****** b****** thing...

i was looking at the classic chrome and black number plates only the other day to fit onto the car to give the tasteful classic look.
Turns out i can't do this as it's illegal, has to be the standard yellow and black plates, not sure where you stand on the plate size being different... suggest looking at direct gov website for the numberplate rules.

Doesn't the rear plate already pretty much fill the recess size? OTOH, you could have a smaller rear plate to go along with an even smaller front plate (with just the bare minimum 11mm around the edge)

I've got a 5-digit plate front and back the same as Daves. As long as the font and spacing is standard and there is an 11mm white 'edge' around all the lettering the plate can be as big or small as you like and will be legal.

hi all, thanks for responses thus far. considering some ideas, ahead of car and dateless plate docs arriving "home". thinking of a larger rear to fill the recess completely (rover 75-esque...) and a shorter front plate to leave the airdams fully on show. (still retaining font standards). as my car is still in the paintshop, could anyone quickly measure me the following areas as marked in the images, from standard bumpers... thanks in advance!

I agree that a smaller front plate would be good. However a massive number plate on the rear would:
A) cover the new paint work which your just having done B) look a bit odd with a big expanse of excess yellow plate C) where would you get an odd sized plate made up? D) not too my taste ... Just my opinion of course each to their own.
