Hi, is it correct that the 20VT steering rack is the same as the Alfa Romeo 145 & 155?

Do you need to do any other modifications for the 145/155 to fit?

Cheers,

Matt

Friend of mine told me that he used Alfa 156 rack, together with 156's subframe(same as Coupe, but rack mounting points different) - don't ask him about pipes, but IMO they can be modified....
And 156's rack is bit "faster" than COupe......if i have time i'll try it someday.....

I doubt its faster.. The GTV / Coupe 20VT has 2 revs lock-lock. Thats pretty extreme and lower than any 156.

Guess that manuals said that 20VT have about 3 turns lock to lock.....
Actually i never tested lock to lock Coupe rack(it will be done tomorrow), but i'm 100% sure 2 turns lock-lock on 156......

Show the Coupe 20V Turbo a swaying artic to overtake and the power surge almost takes your breath away. Rest to sixty occupies just 6.5 seconds on the way to 155mph, but there's instant acceleration on tap in almost any gear. In comparison, other sports coupes feel limp and lifeless. Even the unblown 20v entry-level model is pretty rapid, managing 60mph in under nine seconds on the way to 132mph. Drive it after a spell in the Turbo and you'll be unimpressed, though, particularly as the fuel consumption penalty in the faster car is marginal.
Another point in favour of the more expensive model is that it has been given a high-geared steering rack - the same used in the Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider. This enables just 2.2 turns between locks - compared with 2.9 in the entry-level 20v version.

The Turbo also has unique front suspension (which successfully improves handling precision and stability) as well as massive aluminium caliper Brembo brakes. You don't purchase a car like this simply because it goes quickly and handles like a rally car, however. Consciously or unconsciously, you buy it to make a statement - and it's hard to find a car that makes a bolder visual claim than this one, thanks to its Pininfarina penned lines.

Yes, it's 2.2 turns lock to lock, same as the GTV.

Thanks guys, I came across another 20VT owner in South Africa but the steering rack is shot, we don't want to import a big item like that and hoped something else would fit without too much modifications.

From your discussion I understand that the Alfa Romeo GTV will fit...

Cheers,

Matt

What's unique about the suspension?
And who penned the lines?
