Did anyone else notice the performance stats on this thing in Autocar recently? (I've filled in a few blanks because I just nicked the headling figures off of their website).

BMW F82 M4 (2014)
0-30mph: 1.9
0-40mph: 2.5
0-50mph: 3.2

0-60mph: 4.1
0-70mph: 5.1
0-80mph: 6.2
0-90mph: 7.6

0-100mph: 8.8
0-110mph: 10.7
0-120mph: 12.0
0-130mph: 14.1
0-140mph: 16.5
0-150mph: 19.3

0-160mph: 25.2

Calculated 60ft (18.3m) (s): 2.25
Calculated 60ft (18.3m) (mph): 35.9
Calculated 330ft (100.6m) (s): 5.49
Calculated 330ft (100.6m) (mph): 73.7
Calculated 1/8 Mile (201.1) (s): 8.15
Calculated 1/8 Mile (201.1) (mph): 94.6
Calculated 1000ft (301.7m) (s): 10.36
Calculated 1000ft (301.7m) (mph): 108.2
Calculated 0-400m (s): 12.27
Calculated 0-400m (mph): 121.3
Calculated 1/4 Mile (402.3m) (s): 12.32
Calculated 1/4 Mile (402.3m) (mph): 121.5
Calculated 0-1000m (s): 21.78
Calculated 0-1000m (mph): 154.2

Actual 1/4 Mile (402.3m) (s): 12.30
Actual 1/4 Mile (402.3m) (mph): 120.90

Here's a list of notable cars that this will out-run once on the move:
Original model Nissan GTR
Lamborghini Murciélago 6.2 (2001)
Lamborghini Gallardo (2003)
BMW E60 M5 (2005)

It's as fast as these two beasts
Porsche 911 997 Turbo (2006)
TVR Cerbera 4.5 (1997)

This is the first car to genuinely surprise me in terms of straight-line performance for a long time. Considering I had the new M5's performance calculated to within a tenth at 150mph long before it was tested, I just didn't see this little brother coming.

By all accounts, the M3 version is just as potent. This will be an interesting performance car in a few years... with a remap as it's now turbo-charged...

That 0-100mph time is eye-catching

It's a weapon! This video makes the previous generation M3 look like a Nissan micra in comparison.

Good grief - I'll have to think twice about taking one of those on - putting Trappy's estimated figures for the M4 against the figures he did for my Coupe, we'd be doing over 130 before I inched ahead of the M4 and I'd only be half a second ahead at 1km

I also have a feeling that the M4 will be far easier to launch and will get much better traction (I assume it has all sorts of electronic aids), whereas getting the Coupe off the line quickly is a very delicate balancing act

Very impressive!

What is it you do for your day job trappy? Those calculations are quite interesting.

To be fair the guy is shifting wellll early! All the power is at the very top of the rev range for the v8. On paper the v8 is only half a second slower to sixty. Tuning potential for the new one is immense though. Future purchase...definitely!

Trappy has a 'spreadsheet' its infamous around these parts!

That M4 is another level,as are most modern top end cars, it makes cars that used to be wow a bit pants!! Just think, 20 years ago an escort cossie was the turbo charged nuts, now we have a 3.0 six that will eat 95% of cars and probably a few bikes too!

Went to look at one of these when Audi dinged my first attempt at an RS5. Fantastic cars but the look of the nose just doesn't do it for me and they just don't look much different from every other BMW on the road.
Surely if you have something so potent, you'd want the looks to match it?

It is quite straight forward to work out distance over time with you have acceleration date from road tests and just as easy to put in some 'missing' figures when you have over 1200 data sets to use as a guide!

I'm a Quality Manager and currently feeling really jealous of Flea after having recently seen his 'office' frown

This is all actual data. I used the Coupé version as the M4 is essentially the new M3 Coupé.

BMW E92 M3 Coupé (2007)

Here's a comparision. Time on the left, then the distace covered by the E92 M3 and then the distance the M4 is in front in metres.

I'm not sure what I sent you now Nigel as ALL email is archived after a month, but the set I have on my spreadsheet suggests you'd catch it at 1223 metres. You'd be at 169mph against his 159mph.

With a 30mph start, you'd pass him 13.5 seconds later. From 40mph, you'd pass him after 7.9 seconds.
From 50mph, you'd walk it.

With a simple remap and breather mods, these will be well over 500bhp. Expect to see it doing well on the GTBoard 50kph rolling start races on youtube in the near future!
