hi people!

ive just got myself a 20v turbo in sprint blue. 1998 plate. my intention is to get the car back to as near original as possible. lots of work to do on the body including a full respray - but ive just found a body shop who will do that for me.

the engine needs some serious attention! and the car came with a new head. so im thinking why not take the engine out, whilst im at it??? so thats what im going to do.

can anyone give me some advice as to what i should do whilst the engine is out??? what do you think?

cheers - Garrett

Get in touch with Matt who works for Wallace performance in Aberdeen, he used to be on here. I feel it's far better speaking to some one who knows their stuff face to face.

Best of luck & welcome.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

Welcome mate.

Engine out.... well apart from the usual replacement of all the hoses (CHOD) thermostat etc, I would have a good look in the engine bay for rust and get that sorted before you put it back in. Also check engine mounts, radiator, oil cooler etc. Turbo refurb?

The front cross member (behind the bumper) underside is usually rusty too. Oh, and the black slam panel will almost certainly need sorting out. The cross beam which holds up the radiator will probably need stripping of rust and repainting too. The "outriggers" posts which support the lower parts of the bumper on each side may also be rusty.

Get the washer bottle and coolant header tank cleaned out if they are murky.

If you are really anal (like me) the refurb will never end, but you'll have fun doing it. laugh

thanks for all that. had an "ed China" come around on friday night. he's going to come across and do a compression test before he does anything else. so thats where its going to start. i trust the guy to do the right thing. ill be away at work for most of the week so i'm only going to get to see whats what at the weekends. i'll post some pictures of the before and after condition - and take advice from here as we go through.

thanks again for your suggestions!

Define resoration. I started out like this and now the car will be off the road some considerable time.
Rust here, rust there, worn this, worn that, can't change this without changing that, need a new this............
It goes on and on.

Then You look further than the engine bay..........
