Just thought I'd post this up to get everyone to go out and check their bonnets!! smile

I always make sure mine is closed properly after it has been opened. However, on the way back from work yesterday I noticed the bonnet start to flap up and down slightly!! Somehow the bonnet had opened to the catch?!

Not sure how this happened as I hadn't had the bonnet open for 5 days?

Any ideas?

It's a slight worry as I remember stories on here of bonnets flying open and smashing windscreens!!!

I had one fly up on my cinqacento whilst going around a big A14 roundabout luckily it was not too busy but that destroyed the screen and scared my misses to death!
Wasn't shut properly by the mot station!
Cracking car!

My 16vt got wrote off in this way about 4 years ago. Doing approximately 60mph and the bonnet flew up, and stayed up. Smashed the windscreen, flatten out the bonnet a little and caved in the roof just above the windscreen.

Worth putting bonnet pins in so you dont have a single catch to fail if you are worried - not sure how you would be able to do this with a coupe bonnet though. crazy

Replace both parts if worried. I paid 20 quid for the upper plate. I guess the failure comes from a problem with the spring in the lower plate, I have yet to replace this part.

If they aren't adjusted correctly they can self-release, I know as this happened to my Black LE. The plunger can be wound up and down, and there is also some side to side adjustment on the mounts.
