Hi all,
has anyone got 205/45r16 size tyres fitted to a 20vt? I'm just wondering if I can get away with that size ? I'm after some nankang semi slick and they don't come in 225/45 r16 or 205/50 r16
I know that this size will put the speedo out

I'll be getting this size fitted on my coupe 16" wheels to fit on the marea.
After an experiment I did a few years back on how much of a difference
195 50 15 tyres
Compared to 225 60 15 tyres was a revelation.

80 mph (sat nav) on 195 50 tyres was 3400rpm
80 mph (sat nav) on 225 60 tyres was 2800rpm and what a fuel saving that was, plus comfortable motorway cruising, speedo was bang on.
The downside was much slower acceleration, and boat like handling.

With the 195 50s on he handling was great and it whipped up the gears great but in the motorway it was too high up the rev range for comfortable cruising. And the speedo over read massively.

This was on a Peugeot 406 2.1TD that I did 85k miles In 10 months.

It's stuff we all my ow but it's nice to actually put the theory to the test in the real world.

Have a look on this website to see the change in speedo readouts between tyre sizes.

I'm not too worried about the speedo more interested in will they fit the standard wheels ok and will they look way too small in the arches

The standard 20vt wheels came with 205 / 50 tyres on them so yes they will fit, but they will be smaller and that link should tell you the total diameter difference between the two tyre sizes.

If you are interested in a pair of Yokohama AD08R tyres that size I happen to have a couple going spare!
