Got a letter from my local Fiat dealership, they know i've got a Coupe because I've been in for the odd spare part, and apparently my Coupe is due for a Fiat mandated software update. I didn't think there was any updateable software in the coupe.

Anyone know anything about this, is there any updateable software in the coupe? I'm sceptical about this as Fiat don't even have rear calipers available for it, so I doubt there still modifying software.

I suspect this is just an opportunity to get the car in to find something that needs fixing. wink

There are a few items that *could* be updated, all of which will require the complete part replacing: ECU, ABS, and airbag controller.

Given that; that the interwebs produce no relevant hits on "fiat coupe software update"; that the AA don't even mention the coupe on their recall tester site; and that I've heard nothing in twenty years of ownership, I'd tend to think they're pulling your plonker...

If this is a scam it's shocking behaviour and Fiat should know about it. They are also potentially landing themselves in the local press and beyond and self-destructing their business.

Call there bluff, I would take it in.
Then when the call comes that it needs shocks, discs, pads, wheel bearings and tyres I would ask for details about the software upgrade.

Give them a buzz and ask to speak to the workshop. Ask what system requires the cal update. If you get an answer ask what level the cal is/what it's for and what level yours is at. Imho it's one of those situations where you should probably follow up just in case. Maybe something that was missed very early on in its life?

Aha, my cynicism was justified. No software update. It was a fishing exercise but as I'd turned down the 38 point health check nothing else but a waste of my time. A letter to the managing director of the dealership will be forthcoming. Why do I think that if I'd been a little old lady then something would have been found!

just refer them to Fiat UK - this is the kind of behaviour that has seen Fiat and Alfa dealers with arguably the worst reputation in the country. They are trying hard to improve matters, but behaviour like this won't help - they need to know if anything is to be done

Shop 'em....

That's defiantly not on, refer your communications on to fiat UK. Being brought in under false pretences like that is a horrific customer services.

That's sneaky probably why dealerships are best avoided!

A little mention on their's and fiats twitter, as well as a letter seems to be a good way forward these days!
Hope you get some form of satisfaction out of total blatant time wasting, which could definitely be construed as dodgy to the point of falsely stating work is required when they know damn well it isnt

Best of luck
