About to fit a strut brace, all my searches show disagreement on whether it should be set up in tension or compression, should I aim for neutrality :-) ???

Yes - use the adjuster only to make sure the brace fits

Some people (including me, a while ago) used to put the brace under tension, in order to pull the suspension towers together a little, thus assisting negative camber. Effect would have been negligible though
