I really want it but the history is very sketchy, overdue a cambelt, and has some paint areas that need sorting.

What you reckon, worth a punt?

Is it my imagination or does the mileage read more like 88k-odd?

88120k mileage, the seller clearly couldn't be bothered to wash or put much effort into the presentation of the car. The door shuts are filthy the interior needs a hoover and the tyres look a little flat.
I'd take a long hard look at this one before taking the plunge, it looks as though it has not had the TLC it requires not to be a money pit!

I conversed via email with the seller of the car last week, belts have not been done for over 9yrs (or his ownership); service history is sketchy think it is a local garage; there are a couple of dings on the bonnet apparently after a 'bump' which subsequently meant a new grille (so a new bonnet needed/or filler)...he believes that if it was tip top it would be £7K (delusional IMO). Was told no rust, he failed to answer about paint fade/lacquer peel....he was very cagey IMO and not forthcoming about possible issues.

His reply:
There is no smoke from Turbo goes extremely well

Interior is a 9/10

The exterior is a 8/10

Garage has not told me suspension needs to be changed, otherwise I would have done it !

No kerbing to alloys but need repaint

Falken tyres all round

Last full garage service was local , I have changed oil and plugs for last few years, but any extra work as determined by local Italian specialist garage has been done by them i.e brakes

No picture of Engine bay rocker cover need new red paint like all of them !!!

Belts have done 32k since done : yes more than 5 years

I have said it has never been thrashed or mistreated in the advert

Are you looking for brand new Coupe plus (15 years after cessation of manufacture) for £3950 ?

TBH just did not feel right and he bordered on arrogance in correspondance; so I did not travel the 150m round trip which I believed would be a waste of time and still do.

I have a nice sprinty and was after a 'garage queen', this I felt was not it nor the basis for it.

I'm with Ross on this.

if your're looking for a fast buck by 'flipping it' he has said he will not be lowering his asking price. wink Be interested to hear what it is like in the 'flesh'

Drivers seat looks really tired.

But, if it's a straight plus then it's worth it. Belts are a few hundred quid, as long as everything sounds ok then I wouldn't write it off. View and drive, then make your decision.

Except with the sketchy history you may well be in the scary position of throwing the same cash at it as the purchase price....clutch, belts, turbo, brakes and suspension.

You could, but then it may only need belts. That's why I said get a feel for it by viewing.
I'd be most concerned about frequency and quality of oil changes. The rest are tired on alot of cars.

I'd stay away from this one,it seems to me he's spent as little money on it as he can.
If he carnt be arsed to wash it or pump tyres up then what does that tell you?he carnt be arsed with mechanicals either,at 88k it probably needs loads doing track rods wishbones wheel bearings etc.
I payed 3500 for my blue plus and it looked stunning and had everything done mechanically, this guy is trying his luck at 4k.
