And was rather impressed about how much they like the (just released) coupe...

- front cover
- Editor's comment
- obligatory 'train driver' advert
- Giant Test (it won)
- The Good, the Bad, the Ugly (humdinger)
- Newcomers (buy it)

Aside from that, it was a pleasure to read, and remember how literate and informed (and extremely erudite, in the case of LKJ Setright) Car Magazine used to be.

How the mighty are fallen... maybe I'll treat myself to a modern copy to read on the plane tomorrow.

Ive been reading 'CAR' since 1988. A loft and garage full of them. One of the reasons I bought my first Coupe was from reading that magazine. Its still the best car magazine out there but after LJK and Bishop died its not quite what it was

Absolutely ridiculous. Comparing a Fiat Coupe to a Ferrari F50? Yeah, I know, it's a nice car but it's no Fiat Coupe.

Indeed, Car is still a great read. Barnacle, why do you think it has gone downhill so much? It is still superbly written and accompanied by great photography.

I don't see much difference between today's issues and earlier ones, although as mentioned, LJK was a one-off and very unique in his style. He's missed, that's for sure but its still a great mag.

I did read the current Car on the plane this morning. Good to see some of the old faces there, and the photography wasn't bad, but there was nothing that stood out as a great picture.
There was nothing though that struck me as a discussion of the engineering... LEDs and carbon fibre ooh gee whiz but nothing really to explain why they were such a great thing. It was if it were all an extended retyped version of the press release.
