If I purchase an aftermarket steering wheel, with connecting parts etc, does this have to be changed back to an original one at MOT time , ie with an airbag ? Just thinking about warning lights problems etc.

If you do change the wheel, and don't want the airbag warning light to come on, just place a resistor/squib in the a/bag connector. This will fool the system into thinking that the a/bag is still connected. Just make sure you disconnect the battery 1st, otherwise it will register as a fault and will need clearing. Not sure about mot though, but if no light shows, then I presume it should be ok.

I wouldn't suggest using a small explosive device to fool the system, a resistor is the safer option.

My advice was only how to stop the airbag light coming on. Removing the airbag is something I wouldn't do or suggest. Especially without at least replacing the seat belts with high tension belts, I.e racing harnesses, as the standard safety system would have been tuned to work together.

At least with the resistor, the ACU (Airbag Control Unit) will not record the fault, and still fire the passenger airbag.
