After 12 months of searching, I finally picked up my new car - a 2 year old BMW X1 XDrive Xline with a low 12k on the clock. How many x's does one need? Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but I'm really enjoying it. I felt more interesting than the Tiguan which seems to be the default choice for a small SUV. Being rural, its good to have 4wd again. Has 182 bhp and a 8 speed auto box which is super smooth. The mpg isn't looking too clever at 35mpg showing on the computer? Anyone else got one? Picked mine up in Scunthorpe from Wilsons & Co who had taken it in PX and I found their customer service to be very good.

So far so good Jim. The long journey saved me having to deal with the local Beemer dealers! I thought I had agreed 2 separate deals, first my local BMW Cotswold Gloucester dealer & then BMW Cooper Reading, only for both to cowardly e-mail me at 5.30pm on a Friday to tell me the cars had been sold elsewhere! My last BMW was a 1995 3 series which we had from a year old and we kept for probably 9 or 10 years. It was a great car, lovely to drive and well built. But it was the BMW dealer attitudes which have lead me to switch allegiances to Lexus, Volvo, Audi, Saab & VW since. My car has the balance of a 5 year service plan, so hopefully the initial service costs will be minimal. Fingers crossed.....

Yes Dazvr6 - the official figures are above 50 mpg, so 35 mpg seems disappointing. I will try and cancel the reading and see what then it returns too. I hope you dad is enjoying his X-drive Coupe! The X1 is parked up at the moment whilst I figure out what to do with my diesel 2006 Saab 9-3 Sportswagon? I'm reluctant to hand it over to webuyany car!

I think your right Jim, or at least its worth a go. The Saab is due a service (costing say £150), but otherwise is in pretty tidy condition for just under 92k mileage, with good tyres etc. Not sure what ebay charge, so Autotrader will probably be the best option.

He is indeed. 0-62 in 4.7 secs and 44 mpg is the best of both worlds! I would try the saab on a classified ad on ebay. It costs £10 to list and if it sells there is a final value fee of about £ 15 iirc.

The Saab 9-3 has gone (sold for webuyanycarmoney to my wife's niece who wanted the extra room over her Punto's hatch for prams and new born baby paraphernalia). Good to see it go to a good home and nice to feel hopefully you have done someone a good turn. I had it serviced the day they collected it and have to say it looked immaculate as she drove away. Back to the X1, now getting around 44mpg showing after nearly 1000 miles, which whilst better than the initial 36mpg, is still way lower than "advertised" by BMW! All in all I like it. The 8 speed auto is super smooth and flicking it into Sport mode changes its nature considerably. One consequence of driving the X1 regularly, has been I suddenly became aware of how big the Fiat Coupe's steering wheel seems? It honestly seemed massive this weekend! Still at least the steering isn't anywhere near as heavy as the BM's at low speed!
