I must have had a good nights sleep, or something, but I'm entertaining the idea of keeping my car, as I can't sell it for a half decent price (although thanks sa_20v for saving my sanity with a fall back offer).

Questions I have about taking the car off the road for 10 months are:-

1) How do you stop the discs from rusting away?

2) Car covers. Covered in depth on the forum, but which is best - a car cover, or no car cover but a good wash/wax every few months?

3) I need to remove all four wheel arch liners, clean underneath and waxoyl the lot before winter. Are they easy to get off?

4) Start the car and run it until it's up to temperature every few months, or not?

I have one person coming to view the car in a fortnight. If he doesn't turn up or buy it, I may keep it

NP, offer still stands, whilst my one is in bits I'm losing my mind not being able to drive it and having two NA Coupes is no bad thing!

I do hope you can keep it! If I were you I'd be speaking to one of the specialists for advice. Given there have been a few 'barn find' coupes restored I would imagine 10 months isn't such a long time. Firing up the engine regularly to circulate the oil has to be a good idea.

you could spray the disc with preservation oil and clean the wery wery wery thoroughly with brakecleaner before using it again..

Over inflate the tyres to prevent them from flat spotting.

The battery may suffer for it, I got myself a trickle charger. As the stereo has a constant live you may want to disconnect that, and if you can get away without setting the alarm that also might prevent the battery draining.

Disconnect battery totally and get a good charger. I would fill the fueltank to the brim, over inflate tyres as mentioned and car is fine for 10 months.

Why brim the fuel tank? I try to have the tank as empty as possible before I put the car away for the winter.

For several years my car has spent several months of every year parked up.

When it was parked outside, under a cover, I never had issues with the discs. I have always over inflated the tyres and after some problems have always used a battery conditioner.

I have tried with tank brimming but felt that the fuel degraded over time. Now I leave it about 1/4 full and when it is going to be used take a trip and brim with fresh fuel.

I also try to start the car once a month and run it until the fans kick in.

Before I used a cover my car used to suffer terribly with condensation. Every spring there would be mould on the boot lining and some interior bits!

A waterproof cover stopped this completely and I used one every year until it was garaged. The cover didn't stop the paint clear coat from going milky though

Its the water in the air that makes condense (is that the english word?) as the temperature drops the cold air will condensate water. the more air in the tank the higher potential of water in your fuel.

Barmy Bob - do you think that moisture getting trapped under the car cover caused the lacquer to go milky?

I'll be taking the wheels off initially while I work on the wheel arches - so either a light spray of wd40 type oil on the discs, or a placci bag over the hub will do.

Has anyone had their wheel arch liners off? There's going to be a big spiders nest under the fronts, I'll wager

Fuel goes off after 2 months and petrol can change its properties over a long time causing the fuel lines to rot, or so i have been told.

As you're only storing the car for a relatively short time, I wouldn't over think things.

As others have said, a cover and over inflated tyres will be all that's needed. Also disconnect your battery if you can. You can then top it up every so often to maintain it. I'd avoid putting oil anywhere near the discs and pads; you'll ruin the pads. The best thing to do with brakes is to ensure that the mechanisms are all free to move. That way you can drive the car and clear the surface rust quickly using the brake pedal when you reinstate the car. The supermarkets sell the dehumidifier blocks cheaply, you could put a couple in the car to help the interior.

Ever thought about Carcapsule ? Even looks like a coop in the pics.
It's something I would consider.

Not sure about that.....mine started first turn on two year old fuel when I started resurrecting it.
