Hi is anybody able to help with some travel help in Sweden
I need some help regarding busses or trains to get from an airport to Karlstad
Karlstad airport is not really possible as there are no direct flights from the UK so the price is quite high
Open to most options but Don't have an infinite amount of money so looking for best value really
Hire cars seem to be quite reasonable but not sure if there are any catches tolls or something else
Looked for ferries from the UK but don't think there are any, anymore! And going via Calais is too far!
I have messaged Per but am aware he is not really around much now so perhaps won't see the message in time, Freddan72 I tried to message you but your messages are full
I don't know of anybody else that is from Sweden on here

I have a funeral to attend of a very good friend and want to make sure this is possible before I let the family know I intend to come out, so as not to upset or disappoint or feel I have let anybody down, as I don't wish to impose on them at such a difficult time!
Is this the right thing to do?

Appreciate anybody's help in advance!

Many thanks Rich

Anything Bob or I wrote in the Norway trip may help.

No UK/Scandinavia ferries, just Denmark or Germany, so you still have to get there. And it's a long way, as you say - air is probably your best bet.

Cheapest option would be something like Ryanair to Gothenburg or Oslo then take a rental car.

Driving would mean Calais and that route isn't looking good at the moment. It is also a rather long way to Sweden from Calais. Not good if you don't have plenty of spare time or money in your pocket.

Don't dither with booking flights too. If you see a good price book it ASAP. Prices move about a lot and can rise rapidly as departure looms.

As mentioned above, fly to Oslo (BA/SAS/others) or Rygge (Ryanair).
Then rent a car or jump on a train.
Train from Oslo Central Station to Karlstad Central Station is around £45.
Not sure about transport from Rygge to Oslo, or to Sweden for that matter.

Otherwise, plane to Gothenburg, and then rent a car or take the train.

Driving in Sweden is really easy. Everything outside of the main cities is relatively well signposted single lane roads.

I drove from Arlanda airport to the archipelago region, Arholma, last year for a wedding and it was a doddle. Didn't even bother with a Sat Nav in the end.

Thanks for all the comments and help

I have booked a flight to Arlanda Stockholm and am going to hire a car
Google maps say it is 3hr 3 minutes driving in the car and i have 4hrs and 10 minutes from scheduled landing time

So fingers crossed there are no delays, hassle picking up a hire car (not booked one yet) or bad traffick

Again thanks for the help and wish me luck

Of course any other tips or help always appreciated!!

Hire cars booked anybody know if there are loads of speed cameras in sweden or what the general driving is like on the motorways? (e18)
speed limit appears to be 110km which is what about 66mph really?

I hope google is correct that its just over 3 hrs as friend in sweden is saying 4 hrs which makes it really tight!!

Shame I only just spotted this thread as my wife is from Kristinehamn which is half an hour's drive from Karlstad.

We travel there frequently and usually fly with Ryanair from Stansted to Stockholm Västerås. This airport is further to the west of Stockholm so the drive to Karlstad is just over 2 hours.

Driving is very easy in Sweden but speed limits are generally lower so it takes a while. I just drove across Sweden a couple of weeks ago and counted 16 speed cameras between Gothenburg and Karlstad, but only a few between Karlstad and Arlanda. They are all sign posted though, so just be vigilant!

Fire away if you have any more queries as I know this part of Sweden very well.

Hi Boosted! Thanks for taking the time to reply! Been a slight update regarding this, due to the panic of looking at flights to booking flights with the price constantly going up was not really thinking straight so just booked!

Having checked the hire car details this morning "again" I noticed it said shuttle bus to car collection point!! Arrrgh
With everything being ridiculously tight time wise, I have decided it was pointless to go all that way and miss the service!

So with the help of my very understanding and patient wife, I have left her to see what she could sort this morning!
I'm now going the day before, flying out at around 16:00 ish (haven't seen the itinerary yet!) just got to work out hire car changes and hotel for the night, preferably in Karlstad!
The prices don't seem too bad, even with avoiding hostels!

Trying to get everything sorted tonight before our friend from Australia arrives on Saturday! As I don't really want to be sat at the PC ignoring her!
If you can think of anything that might be helpful! it would be very much appreciated! Been a long time since I have been to Sweden
Cheers Rich
