Almost all insurers will provide unoccupied cover for 30 days on a standard policy. If you need longer than this then it still isn't particularly unusual and I would have thought that most insurers should be able to provide cover (probably at a higher price). Thousands of people go on long travelling holidays, work abroad for part of the year, extend the property and move out while the work's going on, etc. Almost all student landlords will have their properties empty for two months in the summer. Moneysupermarket has a page dedicated to non-standard home insurance.
