with great difficulty.....

Far easier to replace the head unit with a decent Bluetooth or Aux-in enabled unit

Sound quality will be much-improved too

There was a guide for using the CD changer line input for this very purpose. And very easy to follow from what I remember. Probably a bit simpler than replacing the headunit. Undoubtedly a new headunit would give a much better sound quality though.

Even a modern £50 head unit will be far better than that Clarion POS that is in the coupe. Replacement takes all of 30mins.

I run a mech-less Clarion RBT289 - Bluetooth and (rear) aux-in, but only takes a 2Gb SD card, which is a little annoying. Sound quality through some very modest speakers (Infinity Kappa) is very good for a budget setup

Alpine seems to be popular amongst Coupe owners

Would a new one fit straight in to the originals space? Are they the same size all these years later?

It is SOOO easy to fit a modern radio ...just pull out and plug a new one in as they all use standardised fittings .If you get a Blue-tooth one that you might have to fit a separate mic ..I stuck mine on the steering column. Get one with a USB socket as there doesn't seem to be any restriction on size...and some come with a seprate wire input for I Phones

It is keeping in mind that there are 2 standards of aerial connections, you may need an adapter. There are also two possible ways to wire the permanent and switched live. You NEED to get those right.

Modern Pioneer stuff has a good balance between sound quality, connectivity, ease of use and price. Have a look at the DEH-X5800BT.

As far as I can remember you can't just pull out the old Clarion head unit and put a new style head unit straight in. Any "new" unit will come with ISO connectors and the standard head unit has connectors that pre-date that standard IIRC. So you'll need an old Fiat to ISO adapter (corresponding male & female connectors joined by short lengths of wire) which will need to be tucked out of the way when inserting the new unit. And as mentioned above, you'll need to choose if you want permanent live or switched live, and maybe worry about the aerial connection. You also need to make sure head unit gives out power for "electric aerial" (or aerial amplifier). Permanent live is best so it won't lose the radio stations, settings, time, etc. (Never had this problem with old radio/cassette units!) wink People who say you can just pull out the old unit and plonk a new one in have probably lost count of how many different head units they've had and/or forgotten that the first time they needed the adapters. I'm still amazed that there's no standard layout for the back of ALL head units so that it would be truly pull-out-and-push-in without having to pull out the cabling and aerial, plugging them in, and pushing it all back in...

Coupe has standard ISO connectors no need for any adapters.

Hi

my advice there is a huge diffenrene in sound quality.
before you go to the trouble nip into Halfords, them to try a new stereo in your coupe.

My Clarion arx7370r and steering wheel remote went straight in the loft.

Thanks Bockers for good advice ... no need to change speakers
