16v tuning - what next - evochip? #15574

Ive had my 16vt for nearly two months now and have fitted a dv26 dump valve and a powertec induction kit with a cold air feed pipe.

im getting a strut brace and some new brakes soon to improve braking and handling side of things, but im not too sure what to do next in terms of getting more power.

how safe are evochips and how much extra power are they likely to give me? and would it be safe to install it on the current setup of my car or are there other things i should look at first?

nah you will be fine with that setup. Pop in an Evocars chip (avaliable from pauliho), maybe think about getting a 3bar fuel pressure regulator, then just grin from ear to ear

fuel pressure reg you can pick up 2nd hand from a coupe 16v or a coupe 20vt and price for the FPR shouldnt be anymore than £30 - £40. Chip price i think is about £50 mark

or/and a front mount intercooler.

Won't give you a lot more power but makes the charge cooler and hence kinder to the engine. will give some power increase, check out the group buy maybe. Alot more $$$ than just a chip though

The Evo car chip raise max overboost to 1.4bar from memory and you have to change the plugs. FPR is reccomended. I would check with paulhino for the extra power it gives.

Cheers

Begbie, you seem to be the 16vt master so I'll pitch this one up to you.
I've got the 3bar, plugs, chip but haven't installed. Worried I should get it done professionaly (no Evo anymore so Barbz was the thinking), compression tested and all that. Or do you think a 16vt engine with no obvious problems should be ok to just plug and go so to speak?

Also is it better to get me a boost gauge fitted first so I know what the monkey is going on in there?

cheers!

Its always advisable to fit a boost gauge, regardless of tuning the car or not, as people wouldnt know if there were running base boost or excessive boost!

I would think about getting a leak down test done with Barbz as this gives a better idea on the condition of your engine than a compression test would show. Then it would be a case of fitting the FPR, chip and plugs (FPR will be the longest to fit, due to the throttle body has to come off to fit it)

Then go and hoon the car with a big on your face

.... the fact is I got the 3bar and spark plugs about 18 months ago to do this , hows that for not getting round to somthing!

then got a bit sidetracked with 20vt alloys....then LE lips and skirts.....then refurb the alloys.... then toyos all round....then PF cat back... then new head unit.... then strut brace (two days ago).

Oh dear. I was thinking I'd spent fccuk all on my car untill I wrote all that down.

I know the feeling. Got my chip from paulinho in August and its yet to go in. Keep saying next week, next week and still saying it, need to really find the time from work to get the car in and have the FPR changed, thats what really holding it back to plug it in. Soon I hope....

you think its bad only wanting to fit a chip?

My list kind of follows as :

fit and paint rollcage
take rear subframe off and fit new racing bushes
build new engine + get gearbox rebuilt
swap engines
mapping
get the bodykit fitted
whole car resprayed

Think your list is insignificant to mine
