I dropped my phone and now when I turn it on the screen has got a crack in it and is just blank.

Is there any way for me to recover from the phone memory, photos and more importantly, contacts and the notes I had made in the To Do List app/function that came standard with the phone? Even if I could just view the contacts and the notes so I could write them down, that would be ok.

Thanks.

Can you not just plug it into a computer? I'd have thought there must be some sort of utility software that backs up etc (like iTunes can do for iPhone)

Do you not have a Gmail account where you've backed everything up??

My Android automatically backs up pictures, notes, contacts and even Games to my Gmail account. This proved very useful when I lost my phone late last year!

I don't think it has to be Gmail, I think you can do similar things with an Outlook account.

So it turns on? You could try screen mirroring via a usb/HDMI cable. There's 2 bits to the screen, the part with the image and then an overlay to manage the touch functionality.

Maybe you'll get lucky.

Have you considering replacing the screen? There will be you tube vids on how to do it. I've replaced iphone screens. Its remarkably easy.

MeanRedSpider - when I connect it with the USB cable to the computer it just shows up as no files being on there at all.

bezzer - no I didn't have such an account that I backed up to.

Gripped - it's a cheap phone that wasn't good and I was going to replace it, so I'm trying to avoid spending any money on it.

szkom - yes, this sounds like what I'm after. Any further details?

It'll have a micro usb on your phone, so if you search ebay for a cable that adapts to HDMI you might be able to use screen mirroring. But I don't know if all Android phones have this function, or if you'd need to change settings first.

I'm afraid I don't know much else. Mine just works when I plug it in.

Your phone may be set onto charging via usb, rather than data transfer via usb.

Most android phones, enabled to data transfer, can be browsed via a pc. Just a matter of going through files either on phone memory or from its memory card.

Does your phone's name/make appear on the pc screen when connected?

Also was your phone book and camera set up to save to external data? Your contacts could be on your sim and pics on the sd card?

Yeah the phone name appears when connected. But when I click on it and a window opens, there are no files showing.

There was no memory card in there, everything including contacts was saved to phone memory.
