Channel 4 has released more details of its F1 commentary and analysis team:

Some interesting - and some less interesting - names here...

Also, Guy Martin will race David Coulthard on 17th March at 9pm, in a special edition of Speed with Guy Martin.

I'm pleased to see C4 trying to be innovative, even if they have kept The Chain as the theme (for this year, at least!)

I noticed they used the Chain when I saw one of the F1 trailers - ISTR that when ITV took it on, BBC kept the rights to the theme tune, presumably because they expected to get F1 back again

The fact that BBC have let the theme tune go suggests that they've given up on F1 for good

Will be interesting to see how the new line-up works - there's quite a cast....

A very good line up. A shame the Eejit has gone to C4 and I've never been a fan of Ben Edwards commentary.

Still, I'll be watching on SKY again so doesn't really concern me!

Steve Jones as a presenter for it? Really? But with DC and Weber, it's going to be a bit of a Red Bull love in.

It could be, but I think DC is pretty good at keeping his RBR love out of the commentary box. And I'd be shocked if Webber held back on criticizing anyone!

On the analysis side, there's an interesting balance between recent racers and other pundits. Plus Eddie Tw*t-bollocks.

I think Webber is a good addition to the line up but why have they still got Jordan?!

Controversy is sometimes good for arousing interest. Plus, although I can't be bothered with him, he does manage to get some excellent exclusive stories. Maybe just gaffer-tape his mouth shut?

Agreed on the exclusives but he really grates on me after a couple of minutes. I wonder how close he is to Bernie to get the info he does?

The EJit is definitely the "turd in the pool" in that line-up (sorry for that image). My only hope is that his presence will be diluted by all those others.

That said, I will be watching on Sky at every opportunity.

Excited about this programme now! Why - when I know how comparatively uninteresting F1 is compared with other formulae - do I always get filled with anticipation and excitement at this time of year?

Well, it was a little bit like Brokeback Martin.

Man-crushes aside, it was fun TV, but what I really wanted to see was GM getting a chance to drive the car. I know it was unlikely, not least because of the cost of insurance, but it would have been nice.
A couple of neat Martinisms about getting a man to come over from France to start the Red Bull and warming DC's gloves.

The only truly surprising thing I learned was the massive 30-second gap in lap time between the bike and the car. I genuinely never knew it was so huge.

Would a 2012 MotoGP machine have been a better comparison or is the Tyco BMW faster?

As far as I know the Tyco BMW is a (very) modified street bike, whereas the MotoGP bikes are pure race prototypes designed for circuit racing. So a MotoGP bike vs an F1 car would be a fairer comparison.

I think all the principles covered in the programme still stand though. Differences would have been slight. And since it’s Guy Martin’s TV show, he brought his own bike!

‘Who’s faster’ between TT racers and MotoGP champions is one of those never-ending Internet arguments, I think.

The MotoGP racers think TT riders are nutters and vice-versa!

I think the last person to do really well in both disciplines was Carl Fogarty.

MotoGP bikes are definitely a different breed of machinery though. Higher budgets, not based directly on road bikes, etc. More power, more grip, lighter … but they’ll never reach the top speeds of TT bikes, because the TT includes much longer stretches of straight road than any race circuit.

Yes, Last 3 or 4 minutes of Q3 with nobody out on track.

Similarly, little track action towards the end of Q2. I didn't see Q1.

I bet all the folks who paid money to be there loved that.

Well done Bernie, another change of format he didn't think through, might as well put the test card up for the last few minutes. Can we go back to the old format for the next race!

Seemed to have potential in Q1 and Q2 (if a bit confusing), but complete fail in Q3.

Interesting interview just now with Hamilton on C4. He is clearly confident enough in his position to speak his mind, which is refreshing, whether or not you like him. I actually warmed to him.

Straight after Qualifying, Ted Kravitz had a chat with Toto Wolff and he was asked his thoughts on the new format, his answer 'Rubbish' laugh

I watched the Channel 4 coverage too.

That tall bloke (? Jones) seemed out of his depth to start with then got better. What is his background?

Good to see Mark Webber, I hope the Aussie GP isn't a one-off for him.

Too many adverts though.

Pretty universally condemned new qualifying system and both Toto Wolff and Christian Horner thought the fans had been shortchanged by it.

In Q2 there were no cars on track during the last 2.5 mins and in Q3 nothing much going on in the last 5 mins - let alone the extra minutes there'd normally be as they just beat the chequered flag for the last-sec flying lap.

I watched it a second time on C4 and it's even worse.

BBC is reporting they're going to dump it. Can't happen too soon.

I found it hard to keep up with (as, clearly, did some of the teams). I hadn't realised that the latter part of Q2 was "dead" too. There seemed to be a lot of drivers who just stopped in their garages.
I think it won't appear in future races...
