During an MOT, does the tester need to open the bonnet?

Yes, as they have to check for things like the security of the battery, corrosion, etc.

Thanks T. I'll let them know the cable has snapped and pop the bonnet before I take it into the garage.

I don't know if this is relevant but when my cable snapped before last year's MoT test I was told that it must be openable at the time of test. Also presumably not road-worthy if 'open' whilst still officially on the road- i.e. from the forecourt to the test ramp?

This meant Pondman and I spending a long and cold evening changing the cable! It passed though!

Yes, bezzer, it is my understanding that it will fail if the bonnet can't be opened conventionally.

Cheers guys. I've a new cable on order, due to be delivered on Tuesday (MOT is Wednesday).

As with a lot of things Fiat, it doesn't look the most straightforward of jobs
