How on earth do they justify over a thousand quid for some models of what is basically a tin box, couple of heating elements, some insulation, a fan, and a switch?

I just had to ferret in the back of ours to find out why the fan decided not to go around and it's an appalling bit of technical tat in there. Indeed, looking at the construction it wouldn't pass current EN405 regulations regarding insulation, but hey, it's cheaper that way.

I agree they are appauling when opened up, they look like gcse technology projects.

You can also buy one for under £200 so if it's that bad I'd say you're a victim of clever marketing.

Ali, my point was that the ones that go for a grand or more have *exactly* the same stuff inside, bar maybe a different controller or arrangement of knobs.

Anyway, pulled the fan, greased the bearings, put it back in, tested it... worked fine until it got hot which buggered my smoked brisket because I had to use the non-fan heating.

New fan ordered.

New fan? Not bent fan blades? Never had a fan go.... Although I'm used to Electrolux.

I'm currently cursing my oven too, it's a Lamona twin oven and the element has gone in the lower one. If I ever meet the person who decided that 3 of the nuts would be accessible from the front and that the remaining 2 would require pulling the whole thing out to access the rear...

The heater element went in ours on Christmas Eve last year. Would have been pretty simple to swap the element, but for the retaining clip that was impossible to undo without removing the fan blade. Getting the blade off has unbalanced the fan and seemingly knackered the bearings, so we now have a noisy, rattling oven that will doubtless expire on Christmas Eve this year, if it makes it that far. As shit as a Renault headlight.

I have a freestanding dual fuel cooker branded as John Lewis. It's actually made by AEG and they sell it for nearly £900. JL sold me theirs on offer for £600.

In this case it's the fan motor that's died, BM.

I have my eye on one of those Neffs that have the disappearing door; it seems they're the only people to offer it but on my narrow kitchen it seems a great idea. Snag is they only offer it on single ovens, and the one that's coming out is a double, so I'll need to sort something out to do with the empty space.

Though if the new fan motor works, the old one can stay where it is.
