Every self-respecting adult wants be able to manage their problems themselves. I'm the same. Never ask for help and struggle on but I'm satisfied when I sort it all out smile

From another angle, if John's location is doable, why not just ask him for a quote to sort the problem out and get the car made safe again. He seems to be a fair business man and then you would both have something out of it. Might be better than investing in a different car that proves to be problematic too. Better the devil you know and all that ... just a thought.

Hey T, I don't know you personally (hardly post these days) but I think that (maybe?) I know enough about you from your prolific posting.

Just wanted to say we can't battle life all alone. Yes, there is pride in doing things ourselves and saying "I did it my way" etc, but we always owe our successes and joys in some degree to the kindness of others, and in return others owe their successes to us etc and that's the way the world keeps happily turning and lives get fulfilled.

I urge you to take up John's offer (BTW top man, John!). It's just one human being nice to another, and this is the sort of stuff that makes the world a nice place to live in. It's also as much, if not more, of a pleasure to be able to help someone you care for than to receive help.

Keep that car on the road T. For your sake, and for all our sakes. laugh

Please start a story of redemption, and not waste!

Fabulous generosity from people esp JBT. Great response from the forum. Well Done all.

BUT

If it were me I'd want to get on with the decision making in private in my own time dealing with whoever I need. All these posts would take some assimilating.

So "T" I wont be offended if you want to lock this thread and take your time.

Hi T

I understand that you might have reasons for still allowing the Coupe to go, despite John's generous offer. Life changes and people move on.

However, if its a bit of pride that's stopping you from accepting, then please think again.

I'm a firm believer that people reap what they sow. Plenty of Coupes have gone to the scrappy over the last few years, but very few from such a devotee to the Coupe "cause". Without you and the small band of people that run the Club and the forum, this place simply wouldn't exist and we'd all be the poorer for it.

Its just a shame that the work needed doesn't involve some mechanical parts, otherwise I'd be happy to help out from our stock at Motormech.

Regardless, I think the President of the Fiat Coupe Club UK should accept a bit of heartfelt recompense for the countless hours that you've selflessly committed to other people over the years.

Pretty sure everyone will respect your decision whichever direction you choose

There's nothing I could disagree with there Nigel but it's only fair to say that all the 'conspirators' that I know of have called off the chase now, being faced with the prospect of losing a good friend.............memories of "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry..." laugh

Impressive - one lady vs. 'the rest' punch laugh

Gutted reading this T. I know what your Coupé means to you and I recall being in your predicament not too long ago. The outpouring of offers of support is actually quite moving and makes me glad to still be a member of this club, but I can completely understand your refusal.

There are plenty of other cars to move on to, but none that get under your skin in quite the same way as a Coupé. Hope you get a good motor whichever route you choose.

Downhillryder - thanks, you seem to understand my thoughts cool

Lol at proccy and Edinburgh laugh Nobody would lose me as a friend just by offering to help, it's just that everything seemed to be going too far.

Thanks Nigel - I wish it was just mechanical, that's solved a lot easier.

I am thinking of different solutions, as I don't want to move on, I love my car, but honestly, the cost of everything needed and time involved is far too much, even if I accepted people offers of help.

I will be doing my best to stay in a Coupe for many years to come, even if it doesn't end up being in the Coupe I have now, I want to stay a Coupe owner.

I have no other reasons to move on to another car other than mine is f**ked.

The Alfa 147 is just something I would be buying if I couldn't get anything sorted by November.

Ideally, what I need, is another Sprint Blue Coupe with a good shell (especially underneath). Even if the engine, etc., is knackered, that's fine as I can get mine put in it. I can then swap my bodykit, number plate, etc all on to that and pretend all this didn't happen laugh

So, if you all want to help me, find me a dead cheap Sprinty please laugh cool

T - I understand - I scrapped my own Sprinty with far less corrosion than yours appears to have. My floorpan was sound, but the boot floor ends had gone, along with the rear three-quarter panels and the front wheelarches. The sill ends were looking pretty flaky too, so I imagine a poke around with a screwdriver would have found a lot more rust. It broke my heart to scrap it after 246,000 miles, but it was the right thing to do.

If you know your engine and running gear is good, then the re-shell is an obvious solution - there HAS to be a Sprinty out there somewhere with a dead / dying engine

This is exactly what I did with mine - all the good running gear into the Moon Grey - still going strong after 6 years

Firstly i'm gutted to hear about this, for as long as I can recall you have been at events, a core part of the club, the forum. So to see you coupeless is a loss to us all. Make no mistake the offers above are not done so out of pity, you reap what you sow and you have been tearing up fields for years.
Knowing how head strong you are I know my words wont change your mind but all the same its truly amazing to see so many members of the club reaching out to help both with parts, advice and the offer of funds.
Its humbling to see people put aside there differences to help a long standing member in need.

I know you will stick around, and I understand your reasons for walking away, long term running costs can catch up on you and these arent cheep cars to run.

Hi Theresa, guys,
Not sure how much has been stripped from this coupe but it fits the bill and could be a decent swap over car..

Thanks glenn and thanks for remembering this thread too and my need for another sprinty cool

However, I've made a deal with someone regarding another Coupe and hope to pick it up in a couple of weeks time. Would have been sooner, but trying to juggle things around my jobs is a pain.

Been trying to keep it low key until I actually go and get it, but all will be revealed soon laugh

Nothing really exciting to anyone else, but I'm happy and I think it's my best option given time, money and circumstances.

Otherwise, the one you've mentioned would have been ideal laugh

You are the Mother of FCCUK (aka mother Theresa :D)
I'm sure you'd have gone with Johnny's offer if Proccy hadn't said you had to stop at his tongue Hope everything works out for you T and if it does come to a rescue fund count me in too.

(Never mind 'the fund'- don't mention that...)

That is great news Theresa-

I'd been wondering what was happening with you and this.

The thing is, with the cars as they are now (in 2016), they don't have to be massively tarted up to be 'nice cars', you know..?

ANY Coupé now, if it's rolling, is a special car- so I'm very pleased to hear of your forthcoming success in getting another.

Well done.
