[crap film ref]

Anyway. We were very fond of our Mk2 Leon Tdi. We did 130k miles in it from new, then part-ex for £2k, which seemed a pittance for what it was. When we washed and cleaned it for sale, it looked virtually new !!

But, can I find it now???? No. DVLA shows it as untaxed and no MOT since we sold it to the dealer.

So, has it a) been scrapped (very hard to believe) or has it been on a used car forecourt for 9 months?

Can't find it on autotrader or ebay though....

Beginning to wish I'd gone to the auction and bought it back. Probably for less than we part-exed it for.

Any ideas on how to track it down??

Maybe first speak to the place where you did the part-ex?

Or Google the reg? A new owner may have at some point referred to it by reg on a forum (as new Coop owners often do on here when trying to find out about the previous owner) and it might show up in results? Or someone might have sold it on some other site and again they might refer to it by reg in the description and again it might come up in the results.

You might get an idea of what happened to it?

Yeah, tried googling. No joy. There is one similar one on ebay, but the Reg is blanked out. On for £4100 !!! Might ring the seller just to rule it out.

Might phone the dealer where we sold it.... good plan.

Does it show up for instance on Auto Trader vehicle check? Or on the MyCarCheck checker. You know basically, those sort of online checkers.

Actually do they show a car regardless of whether it's scrapped or not?

Thanks for taking the time JKD.

Not sure. If they just use DVLA for info, it will just show no Tax and no MOT.

Will see if I can find a free car status checker, but unlikely.

What I meant was, at the very least, for free, with AutoTrader and MyCarCheck entering a reg shows a few basic details (make, model etc). But does that happen for any reg that has ever existed? Or would entering the reg numbers of vehicles that you know have been definitely scrapped, come back with no details/invalid reg/reg not found or something like that? confused

I've just checked a few of my scrapped cars, they still show up.

Not to worry.

Did you try:

https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/ ?

When I was looking for my 807, I found quite a few cars came back with no details when I put the reg in. All were dealer cars, so I suspect they are just in limbo - no tax or MOT until sold.

With the mileage your Leon had, the garage might have sent it to auction, so it may be just sitting in a lot somewhere waiting...

Slightly bizarrely, I've just had Mitsubishi contact me to extend the warranty on my Misubishi (it's a Mercedes...)

Cheers Jim, thanks I'll take a look. I suspect it is sitting somewhere.

In the coupe.
It could have been bought by someone living in mainland Europe. Sorned and new uk log book to an address in the uk. Then once the new owner has a uk log book in his name he can then re register it in a country of his choice.
