Looks like we will be spending a few days in this, for us unexplored part of the Country.

Any ideas on where we should visit and what we should see?

This website seems to have a few ideas you might be interested in: http://www.visitshropshirehills.co.uk/

You could also go to the RAF Museum in Cosford, near Telford. Museum is free, but you have to pay for parking, which I think is around £3 now for about 3 hours.

Shrewsbury town itself is a nice place for wandering and shopping in (well, it used to be, but a few years since I last went).

Ironbridge is worth a visit - a number of museums there as I recall. and if you're near Church Stretton and the wind is in the west, take a look at the Long Mynd to see the paragliders - it's a nice view up there whatever smile

We stopped at a rather nice hotel a couple of years back which I'll update if Anita can still remember what it was called.

We've already booked a place to stay, Oswestry way. We just need to discover what is about now.

Ludlow is certainly charming, and for out-of-town stuff Offa's dyke path passes quite close by Oswestry if you're into that sort of thing.

If you were on your way to visit Theresa tongue you could manipulate a route around the scenic Horseshoe Pass, Llangollen way....

Pistyll falls is a lovely place.
We have a static about 20 minutes from there in Llansantffraid so have been a few times.
You can stand in the pool at the bottom and there is also
a walk around the back to get to the top.
LLangolen and Ludlow are lovely places to visit but there are loads of places around Oswestry depending on your interests.

Pistyll falls is a lovely place, if you fancy a nice walk the stiperstones is an easy one along with the longmind. ludlow castle is well worth a walk around, I would avoid shrewsbury for any kinda walk around or shopping. Its gone down hill very quickly and I no longer bother unless im desperate.

RAF cosford is a great day out as others have pointed out, its a shame as you just missed the open days at the maltings in shrewsbury as well as the pump station and they open'd up the colum in shrewsbuy which would have given great views.

You wont be short of placed to eat but I cant recommend the bridges ratlinghope enough, in the summer its a place I go to quite often. If your in the north of the country another nice place to stop is the moat shed wem for a bite (really great food)

If I think of anything more ill update.

As you'll be on the Oswestry side, then the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct won't be too far out of your way - lovely canal walks and scenery and you can walk into Llangollen from parts of it cool

Thanks peeps some really good tips and ideas there. We're really looking forward to exploring the area smile

It's also good to see that the weather has plans to cool down a bit, far too warm for me this week - haven't even attempted a walk.

Anything below around 14/15 degrees is fine for me laugh

Not long come back from a Shropshire break. We were near Craven Arms, but did travel around.

If you like history go and see Stokesay Castle nr Craven Arms. Very nice place.

+1 for RAF Cosford too. All the V bombers under one roof !

Ludlow is lovely too for a walk around.

Lovely black and white 16th C villages with great beers and food.

Enjoy

I'd recommend the Feathers in Ludlow if you're looking for somewhere to eat.

Done a fair bit of walking past couple of days, took in the two aqueducts today and found a decent place to eat in Maesbury Marsh.
