Bored of the 156 wagon and want something vaguely practical to run for a year.

Needs 4 seats and luggage room since its the other half's turn to have something impractical.

Budget around 1500.

Hit me!

Fiat Coupe NA.

You walked into that one. laugh

My VIS is my daily driver. The boot is bigger than many hatchbacks, the rear seats are good enough so long as you're not a 6 footer.

What's not to like?

Other than that, to narrow it down, what kind of car are you looking for? Any brands you don't like? Do you need good mpg? Do you want good power? Diesel? Petrol?

I'm rolling in a Volvo V70 that I picked up last year for around your budget. Very practical, and mine is the 2.5T so I even get the 5 cylinder turbo soundtrack like the coupe. It has loads of toys (premium audio system = love) and the seats are the most comfy of any car I've driven.

Keep to the 156. But get a V6.
Mpg is poor. Weight over the front wheels means tight B roads are hard work.
But it is the most entertaining engine I've ever had. Apart from a Sud sprint boxer on carbs.
Every 1000 rpm on the gauge gives you a different sound. And output.
I sit outside my house listening to the engine and exhaust for a couple of minutes before turning it off.
There will never be another engine again that sounds quite like it. A la Coupe.
Gtv's are out of your price range, 2.5 156 are not loved and so are.
It's a superb, long legged cruiser.

For half that you can get a decent Saxo VTR. If you insist on spending it, you can get a VTS. The 205 GTi for the new Millennium.

I want my daily driver to be fun and the only bit of the 30k I've not enjoyed in my VTR was when I saw the 'safety' camera van.

Mk2 focus. Surprisingly large inside, quite comfortable, and a decent drive.

Not that exciting on paper, but much better in the flesh.

My dad is 75 and drives a hot hatch. Live the dream !!

Fabia vRS. Great car. They hold their value though.

What about a Mk 1 A3 1.9tdi (130). Fast and 50mpg.
