Hi, I know the GTEC chip is a fairly known and practised mod for the coupe, but what have people done about the installation? I see it's advised the fueling should be checked after. Have people done this? Or do most just install the chip and crack on.
I'm after a bit more power , I like the cost of GTEC but not if it causes issues. Am I better getting a custom map ? Or for just stage one diy GTEC be adequate?

Cheers

I'm not saying you should just install the chip and crack on, but that's what I did with my Coupe 10 years ago and it was fine.
May or may not have been the right thing to do, just saying that mine was ok with the GTEC 1 chip on it smile

Only took it off the road in July this year due to rust and bodywork issues cry

The G Tec is really good and I ran my car with one fitted for years, but you'd be better off with a live map from Flea (FC performance). He will check the fuelling and safety and you'll likely get more BHP too.

Coopless!

I have used Gtec1 and Gtec2 for many years. Had no issues. Made good power with Gtec2 smile

I have a GTEC2 installed, but you *will* get more power of a dedicated live map. The GTEC's were mapped to work accross a wide spectrum of engines. The costs roughly break down like this:

GTEC
Chip £20 delivered
Rolling Road (to check fuelling) £50-£80 depending on your location

Live map
Remap £195 for standard car
Rolling Road £75 (not essential)
Fuel to drive to flea plus what is used during mapping £xx

I plan to get to Flea once I have a host of mods done rather than go every so often and multiply cost. Just the turbo left to do for me!

Cheers for the replys sorry for delayed response. My car is totally standard, although I plan a air filter & cat back exhaust very shortly. Based on your thoughts I'm going to take the car to FC (flea) and get it done properly.
Cheers
