Fellas, forgive me for panicking. I've done a quick search, but as my MOT is booked for tomorrow and the car is not accepting any of the keys.

Am I right in thinking I'm going have to postpone the MOT and attempt the emergency startup procedure, or was what I read a few months ago about getting the car to start by using a bypass procedure possible???

Again, sorry for not searching the site deeply, just I'm pushed for time.

Disconnect battery for a minute to reset the ECU + immobiliser then try again.

Also pull both connectors out of the yellow code box (in driver's footwell above fuse box) and reinsert them.

Code box is here:

And try all the keys you have (red, silver + blue) if you've not tried every one already.

Graham, many thanks for the reply mate. I thought I'd read something somewhere about a bypass. I have tried all keys but I'll give your truck a try.

CODE box can be easier to access if you remove the dash end panel but that itself can be tricky to get off if you've not done it before. We're assuming that 'not accepting keys' means the CODE light is coming on when trying to start, with engine turning over ok? If you have the blue CODE card, that has the 5 digit code you need for the emergency start procedure.

Probably battery voltage has dropped due to the cold and crashed the code box, hence the reset has fixed it, for now.

Yes, I think the cold snap and not using the car daily left the battery susceptible to going flat. I realised it needed charging, so charged it up and put it back in the car. That is when it decided to show me the yellow key & red injector symbols.

I looked in the owners manual and it gave details for the blue card emergency start procedure but I was lead to believe if I followed it, I would have to get fiat to attend to it or according to the book I'd have to carry out the emergency start sequence every time I wanted to start the car.

I had a hunch it must be something more straight forward, and had remembered stumbling on a bypass procedure a short time ago.

Thanks to both of you for your help though, all tips & gained knowledge are handy when you are new to a specific type of car.

Thanks again lads!
