My wee diesel & me do a lot of stop start mileage & I regularly change the oil every 6 months. Easy job, but of late getting under the car is becoming a bit of an effort, so bit the bullet & purchased from Lidl a cheapo oil suction pump. I was a bit sceptical but bottom line it worked well & the same amount of oil as usual came out, in fact I could suck out more oil out of the top filter housing. Handy if I'm feeling lazy/decrepit... Probably do a sump change now & again. Pleasantly surprised though about the pump....

Do you have a link please Jim? I can't find anything on their website.

Sorry Pete I have not. Purchased a couple of weeks ago. Would've given a heads up on here earlier, but never seem to get any response when Lidl stuff is spoken about... Worth looking into your local Lidl shop to see if any left. Sometimes they hang on to old stock.

Thanks Jim,
Like you I struggle with getting up from under cars,, the last time I changed my coupe's oil I finished up having to get my son to drive me to A&E where I stayed for 6 hours until 3 am. It turned out to be a trapped nerve in my spine making it agony to breathe.

Now that is the definition of being a lazy b$"%$&d I have dodgy legs.I have a metal hip joint & an old broken wound in the other leg that has come back to haunt me big time. Realistically it's just difficult getting back up from under the car. Apart from anything else it can be a bit dangerous scrambling about under there when I'm not so agile. Sorry Jimboy, didn't realise but it was only meant in jest anyway

Would've given a heads up on here earlier, but never seem to get any response when Lidl stuff is spoken about... I love Lidl and usually know what offers they have on, so I don't respond. I'm lucky enough to have two Lidls near me I haven't noticed any pumps in my Lidls Pete, but I wasn't looking either. I'll have a look at the Lidl that's down the road from me on Monday as I go past it nearly every day and I'll have a look in the other on Friday. They usually repeat their offers in a few months, so will keep an eye out

Our Mazda Bongo is supposed to have an oil change every 3,000 miles. YES, you read right. In practise, we don't do it this often, but a suction pump is a quick way of doing an interim change where you don't change the filter, just the oil. Certainly beats lying on the drive getting hot oil up your sleeve... and all over the drive !! We got one of these, but sure it was cheaper than this. pump As with any change, make sure the oil is hot otherwise it won't suck up very well.

The Lidl pump is a 12 volt electric & has clips for the battery, £12.99. You could do this anywhere that's handy for yourself at the time, old oil straight into container. No fannying about pouring oil from a catch pan & there's always some wind about, splashing everywhere. As you say saves time. Any job for me on my hack involves 90% making sure everything is safe & sound, unlikely to fall on top of me etc, etc. I enjoy working on the old girl, unfortunately reality is closing down on me.....
