Mot today, only failed on one rusty brake pipe so well chuffed for a 147k car!!

However had an odd advisory on the headlights.....'headlamp deteriorated but light output not reduced'...mot man said it was the dull plastic effecting the beam pattern and much worse it would be a fail.....suggested I get new ones!!!....as if??

They have been buffed by Joe so didn't think they were too bad.

I'm guessing clear ones are like hens teeth? Do fiat still stock new ones? evil evil

inky goodness!!

Joe put his buffer on them and they did come up shiney a while ago. They now seem to be hazing inside the plastic or it's the actual plastic itself rather than the coating. Guessing this is going to be an issue for most owners!!

I recently did a set with a 3M kit and was very impressed with the results.

I understand the important step which is often missed is to add some UV protection to them once you are done. They haze up again pretty quickly if you don't. I used some 303 aerospace protectant, but too early to comment on the results.

As stated above, if you don't seal them after polishing the dull and yellowish coating will return very soon especially if left outdoors exposed to the sun. Recommend polishing the outside again and if they come up good then great, get a sealer on them. If they fail to polish up, you have nothing to lose but to split them and polish inside and out before resealing the units with silicone sealant......oh and use a UV sealant

Ive also been told that due to the age of the plastic that very micro size cracks will probably be present from the outside to the inside on some lenses, so Im guessing you may need to address the issue inside the lens or buy a better used set from ebay and do the same.............

Hope that helps!

I agree with the sunlight damage.

I split apart and cleaned my old Coupe's lights about 3 years ago and also sprayed the top black bit blue.

It's only been off the road for 10 months and the lights look horrendous.
