I just wondered if it was still about so I entered the details onto the gov.uk site to check for MOT & tax - not recognised by the site as a valid registration. Does this mean it's been scrapped?

I could HPI it if you let me have the reg, it might show up on the old plate if its still on the road, or the chassis number if you have that by any chance?

HPI not showing anything, but not 100% sure if it searches just the current reg - and then it would show the number plate history normally.
I tried... but failed... as is the norm in my life!

Any chance that one of the guys who looked after your car would have a note of the chassis number for parts ordering purposes? You did get through a lot of parts!

Did you sell it to a forum member, or do you have the address of the person you sold it to? Might be worth writing to them to try and get first refusal if you want it back?

out of interest X19 - how do you check a car via it's chassis number to see if it's on the road ?

Hi Mike, I have a motor trade HPI account (which is a bit more in depth than the public one I believe, and cheaper!) and also other trade related systems which I can check, based on the reg plate and/or the chassis number.
I have HPI'd a car on its chassis number in the past, but the car was on site. I am not sure if it would return results if the car has been scrapped.
I have another system which will only display info a car with a chassis number, but this can be a bit hit and miss.

If the HPI did work, then the check would give me the reg number relating to the chassis number at that time and also any previous registrations.

We don't usually bother with chassis numbers - we tend to work with owner names and reg numbers
