Hi everyone…just bought my second coupe 20v turbo and planning on turning it into a weekend car / track car. Looking to get to the 300 bhp mark (as cost effective as possible). The car has a stainless steel exhaust, my plan is to fit a front mount intercooler, new turbo and have it live mapped..
from what I have read on the tuning workshop forum this is what I need to do to the engine Stage 2 – (250-360BHP) – Bolt on Parts Turbo Upgrade SIP FMIC Walbro Fuel Pump Clutch
My question is…? : Will i get to 300bhp on the standard : fuel pump? Clutch? standard turbo intake pipe?
I believe the standard injectors will be ok: (The standard 330cc 20VT injectors @ 3Bar/3.8Bar can fuel upto 330BHP)
Are these the best turbo’s to choose from : GT28R – Quick Spool up and can deliver upto about 310BHP GT28RS – Good Spool up and can deliver upto about 360BHP GT28RSR – Mixture of the two above and can deliver about 340BHP
Where can I buy them from? Any recommendations? Any help would be much appreciated!!!

I think any gt turbo means that you have to have the turbo to down pipe flange changed to a five stud flange instead of the stock V band flange.
There are hybrid turbos that use the stock V band that will get you over 300 horses.
Updated clutch is a must. There are various ones on the market. A fair few people on this forum use a Helix organic clutch.
FC performance is a company that can give all the answer's to you're questions. The man to talk to is Leighton who goes by the suedo name on here Flea.
There are other tuners also, but I only know Flea.
Edited to add that increasing the power leads to many other nessesary upgrades in the braking and handling areas.

Yes, but it might be prudent to do the 'wiring mod' to ensure it gets enough juice. Yes, but on track it might be a different matter. Go with Magooagain's advice and uprate it as he's been on track before standard turbo intake pipe?
Yes, but you might want to fit a Straight Induction Pipe (SIP). This goes in place of the original SMIC when you fit the front mount for a bit less pipework to get air through Go with a T28 hybrid turbo. You can easily see 300bhp and keep or even gain better spool than standard. If your stainless steel exhaust is standard or near standard bore, then you may want to increase that... If you can get a 3" turbo back then you're looking at an easy 10% extra power there alone.
F****** b****** thing...

Thanks for the advice lads!
I will look at the workshop forum and do the 'wiring mod'
you mention: There are hybrid turbos that use the stock V band that will get you over 300 horses...
Are these hybrid turbos using the standard turbo housing with different internals? If so what spec would i need to buy? and where from?
Also Trappy... you mention the T28, what kind of money are they and does Flea sell them?
Thanks again!

Flea can supply a hybrid turbo. Mine is the power punch +. It's an excellent bit of kit. Installed and set up by Flea.
It's the standard turbo with different internals.
Not sure what mine makes but am confidant it's over 300 hp.

Sorry, the T28 (or TB28 as I 'think' it's correctly known...) is the standard turbo. There's a lot you can do with a standard turbo though! here's and old list of some Roger used to sell for an idea of the options. Flea went even further, one of them eventualy making well over 400bhp... (with supporting mods). Send him a PM - he'll go over your requirements and give you some options

KJ16v have you spec any other clutches which can handle more but still be as driver friendly?
Im at 389ftlb's and the next lot of mods will take me past the specs you are listing?
