Battery issues, and strange noise #1610178

Tried a search on this, and can't find anything, though I am sure I have read something about this noise.

The battery has gone flat, and I thought I would try one of those lithium pack small chargers - figured it might be worth it (a Sealy SL65S) It hasn't done any good what so ever, and I have tried leaving it connected for a couple of minutes.

Today, after trying a couple of times with no success, there is a strange rough buzzing from it seems the dash. I have heard it before, but it usually clears. Today I could only get it to stop temporarily.

Any ideas? NB I haven't tried jump starting it yet, as it hasn't been practical and very uncooperative weather etc!

Thanks for any info

Sure it’s not a connection or Earth fault?

With a fully charged battery the noise will disappear, common to hear a buzzing with a flat battery and probably one of the relays having a fit!

Thanks guys. I think I will have to try the old-fashioned way and jump start it

Red Spider - it did give a glimmer of power. I would leave the booster on, but I don't think these things are designed to charge up a battery though, are they? Just a boost? They also say don't try it more than 3 times.

Edited to include a link to the jump starter Sealy unit

Shouldn't you just connect this and then start the engine? The sealy unit should provide enough power to do that (I think) confused

Well, that is what I thought. So far no joy, but it has provided a small amount of juice in that the engine at least makes a noise, and the hazards start flashing.

That’s why I wonder about the quality of the earth connection - especially at the body end.

Should I try and connect to both terminals instead, if that is the case? (That's not what they tell you to do)

No - if the booster battery is not turning the engine over, I don’t think the battery is your (only) issue.
