Hi
I’ve been looking into a KN cone filter

I’ve never had one on any car before

Just wondered how they sound and
How they affect performance
I’ve heard they hurt the low end to some degree

It sounds like Darth Vader is hiding in the glove box and arguably makes performance worse. Had one for a while on my 1st coupe but removed it and went back to standard airbox.

I had one and it made my car more laggy, I soon switched back to the standard airbox

Hi, i’ve just put a Pipercross filter in my standard air box (20vt) and not really sure if it did anything.

I think I can notice a bit more ‘egerness’ and it might rev a bit quicker but I could just be imagining it!!!

A simple question would be if Fiat could have squeezed more power out of the coupe with a different filter surely they would have? A cone filter is probably less expensive to fabricate than the big plastic box system they put in???

inky goodness!!

I´m running standart, drilled 16VT airbox with paper filter in my modified 16V NA and it dont suffer from lack of air... tried cotton panel and no difference instead of small layer of dust in intake pipe... (so even oiled cotton filter it not filtering well...)

instead of beter sound you will not notice any difference unless uyou are running huge amount of bhp... at this level, I would go for biggest cone filter you can fit with foam sleve over it (like in autocorss machines...)

I had the cone filter on my car; didn't notice any performance impact either way, but the sound was awesome. I was sold the day I was standing outside PowerFiat and I heard Roger arriving booting a car with one fitted up the road to his garage :-) Only thing is you will need to clean the MAF periodically as it can oil up.

Thanks for everyone’s input

I’ve decided to go ahead with buying second hand one
And see how i like it

Sort of thing that can always be sold on if doesn’t suit

But the sound is what I’m buying it for

Update

Fitted second hand Kn cone filter
And it was very straight forward
Even still probably one of the biggest jobs I’ve done on
A car to date but I do aim to do a lot more myself in future

First impressions are

It sounds amazing
Yes I can probably be heard from an extra street away but
I don’t mind hehe

Performance wise I think it has improved it if anything
But it could just be the noise that clouds my judgement

Either way it put a smile on my face
Which at end of the day is the main thing

Answering Mr_no but’s
Question on if it made a difference why
Didn’t Fiat do it

I lead you to the fact the majority of people I know with coupes run a GTEC chip
That’s another simple (not speaking from experience)
Switch that makes a positive difference to the car
And fiat didn’t think of that either
