Heard loads of drivers getting tickets in the UK after speeding in France some multiple tickets each. Also heard not sure how true, that the UK does not do the same for EU drivers speeding in UK if caught by electronic/camera enforcement no fine is sent.

Yep, me too doing a "corrected" 53 in a 50 km/h near my B&B in Holland. To be fair, my SatNav did warn me, I must have mis-judged it. 36 euros but no points, used TransferWise to pay.

I've heard about quite a few people getting them from France, I must be careful next week wink

\If we ever Brexit it should go back to the previous system but I'll bet this one has been sorted so it continues!

This article says not. May of changed but appears the Directive is not equitable given the differences in laws of member States.

I was ok in France last few trips as was on my bike and their cameras are mostly front facing.

Not surprised re the Dartford Crossing the Govt asked a private company to fleece motorists and the company they chose to extort, I mean enforce charges are French.

In my experience local road safety partnerships who enforce those contraventions don’t usually progress the foreign driver speeding offences due to the cost involved being disproportionate to the amount being recouped.

I've just read that the speed limits on the French Routes Nationales has been reduced to 80 kph, is this true?

Seems very low to me.

On roads previously with a limit of 90 kph the limit was reduced last July to 80 kph. However the French PM this week gave the OK for the departments to return the speed limit to 90 if they so wish i.e its their decision to go round and change all the signs back again and presumably at their cost too. This means potential chaos as unless otherwise marked, roads crossing departments can be 90 kph one minute and then 80 the next!

The 80 limit has not been a proven success or popular hence the return to 90 - makes me wonder if someone had shares in the sign company much like the mandatory alcohol test (now not mandatory) and the french pool alarms

Oh no, don't mention them, they are grim laugh

We have had a couple of discussions with public pool operators giving them feedback that international tourists do not like "smugglers" . Interestingly enough they know and also appreciate it is costing them money in lost business but they also know a certain sector of their community will do a days work in swimming boxers and then go to the local pool shocked rolleyes

They have a lot of average speed cameras on Dutch motorways, I got done a few years ago near Amsterdam for doing avg of 109 in a 100 section. I was driving a gutless Fiat 500 at the time so I was quite surprised.

im awaiting a raft of tickets as well, regardless of how careful one is its still relatively easy to get caught out.
Joe, if you had been following me and Rube... you would never have got a ticket!!! i was on a fuel saver mission as was rube smile

Its all a bit rubbish as the UK refuse to issue speeding fines to forren drivers because of the cost where as everywhere else have made it work. I also read that france have trippled there RFI to DVLA over the last months and seem to be making hay while the sunshines before we leave.
That said, do the crime, pay the price!

Dartford are a private company and have there own recovery process.

But the point is that it does work both ways but the UK Gov choose not to issue them.

Good article and explains why DVLA/UK Govt does not issue tickets/fines etc as our current EU partners do.

It describes whats going on in the UK but as to why the DVLA/UK gov do not issue tickets all I got was this:

"analysis by the DfT in about 2010 which concluded that there were no net benefits for the UK in taking part in this regime.

But having decided they were unable to use EUCARIS for more serious offences, DVLA are unwilling to use it for more minor contraventions, even though this is within scope."

Which for me means it is a choice of the DVLA/UK gov.
