Hi guys, hoping someone can give me some good advice 're my June 1995 coupe 16v n/a M-reg,79,000 miles, broom yellow, black leather and sunroof. The car has been off the road since 2007 and carefully stored in my garage so she has not suffered the ravages of time spent on winter salt laden roads.Due to health and time commitments I have decided to think about selling.

When I purchased the car back in 2007 the bodywork was in great shape just a couple of car park dings on the drivers door and some paint fade on the n/s door and just going into the rear quarter panel, car ran and drove really well with only 3 previous local owners to me

Anyhow the plan was to bring the car back up to a very high standard, the rear subframe was replaced due to some corossion on the spring top mount, anyhow to cut a long story short the whole of the rear suspension was rebuilt inc brakes with Fiat only genuine brand new parts-new subframe, lower suspension arms even nuts, bolts, washers, brake pipes and Bilstein B4 shocks. The only rust on the car is a very small patch in the usual spot in the boot on both sides, currently the fuel tank is removed to access the boot and weld in some new metal, the car sits on a set of Goodyear f1 Eagle tyres prob no more than a 100 miles on them.

From what I can see she just needs welding in the boot, replace the fuel tank (new genuine Fiat tank straps supplied) and exhaust (brand new stainless steel exhaust supplied) timing belt replaced and a front suspension refresh and she would be good to go,NB car would need to be trailered,if anyone can advise what I should be asking for then that would be great and I would love to see the car taken up by a club member and finish it off,

Ed.

Hi Eddy,

I think everyone may be shooting in the blind without some pictures.

And details such as service history, was the work mentioned carried out by garage/yourself. Is it running now/sorn etc. That will help people give you an idea of how much to ask.

Regards

MM

These early M reg (usually M70* CLM) coupes were demonstration models. My own 16vt (my first coupe) was registered at the end of May 95 and was M709....I think it's now in coupe heaven

Hi MM,

If anyone wants to PM me then I will send them some pics,I have the original handbooks and service book stamped up to Nov 1999,after that various bills up to 2006.The car is currently SORN,I work in the Airline business and all the work on the rear suspension has been done by myself using the genuine Fiat Coupe manual, the car is not running due the fuel tank disconnected ready to complete the small amount of welding in the boot area, engine turns over easily on the starter motor (engine when last run approx 2 years ago was in very good condition no smoke,no worn cam noise etc).As mentioned the car will need to be trailered away to complete the work but I would like to add that this is no basket case it's a really nice clean genuine straight early fully specced 16v coupe and if it was not for a bad back and my wife nagging me then I would be keeping the car.

What you *do* need, before you drive it again if at all possible, is a new cambelt. They're good for 36k miles if they're used, but if it's been standing then it is at serious risk of breaking and when they do break, they take out half the engine - pistons damaged, bent conrods, damaged big end bearings... (ask me how I know!). You'll change the aux belts at the same time, and the water pump. Also, check with care the condition of all the pipework - the water pipes around the engine can get awfully sad.

Regarding rust/corrosion: check behind the front shocks for delamination of the lower inner wing, and also the condition of the brake pipes.

In fact, you might find this link helpful: https://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum...les-olde-original-16v-fettle#Post1478096 and its associated discussion thread.

Many thanks Neil for your reply I must admit I had read your link a little while back and I must say it was very informative,to be honest I might just put the car on the backburner for now and just see how I feel about things in a few months time and see if i should keep her or whether to move her on to someone else who can give her the attention she deserves,

Ed.

Well, if it helps, the last time my car was driven was... Tuesday. And the time before that, to the Club meet at Brands on the weekend.

They're *always* better when they're used.

(I'd just hate to see you kill an almost irreplaceable engine by breaking the belt).
