I've just fitted this '5A Waterproof Dual Port USB Socket 12V / 24V' into the coin holder thingamy hole and I think it's a neat solution so I thought that I would share.
I purchcased it here for around £15 delivered. It's wired it to the cigarette lighter supply. I removed the waterproof cover and streched an 'O' ring around the body to make it fit nice and snug in the recess.

Looks great
Looks like it was always supposed to be there
Much better than having to have the ashtray open to charge up

Maybe you could cut a hole on the opposite side to fit this...

Most modern head units have a USB port that you can use for charging phones

Such a good idea - I've bought exactly the same unit smile

Can I suggest this goes into the FAQ section as that was where I first looked before putting 'USB' into 'Search'

Cheers

I replaced the cigarette lighter on mine:

With suitable cables with small USB plugs the ashtray can still be closed.

I have one fitted in a 16v which has USB and a digital vole meter which is very handy for checking the voltage charge rate.
