As the title says, I haven't checked my oil. For a long time. Admittedly it's been serviced and had a new turbo this year, so Joe has checked and changed it twice. But not me.

I'm a bad man. teacher

Is it true that if you don't check the Coop's oil, the Coop then forgets it has got oil, and then the Coop's oil magically disappears?

Do you expect a black-and-white answer to that?

Our daily runner(mini) has an even worse dipstick reader. I managed to overfill the engine oil once, driving was interesting with a oil smoke cloud so dense I couldn’t see out of the rear view mirror. Greta Thunberg would have told me off proper!

I'm amazed at the differences in oil consumption, my 16vt never needed oil between services (doesn't mean I didn't check it though!), my colleagues Audi TT was always needing top ups despite being much newer and less miles. I've got a VW T5 that never makes it to a service without a top up, maybe a VAG thing.

That would be quite helpful actually.

Because I once put in what I thought was Olivio Oil. When I checked it a few weeks later, even though I hadn't driven much, the dipstick was all Crisp 'n Dry.

Ho ho ho. And it's not even Christmas any more. wink

I have heard VAG engines use oil, though probably the petrols as our Leon TDi didn't use any. I've heard the Golf Gti engine uses a fair bit.

Anita's Leon 1.8T doesn't seem to. I suppose I should check it, one of these years...

We had a 1.8T Leon too. Cracking car. I don't remember it using oil either. Liked to blow coil packs mind. Dodgy batch.

My Mk5 GTI uses half a litre every 1500 miles or so. Exactly the same as my coop did. What it doesn’t do is plume smoke at the lights despite running no cat, which is nice. That was always a little embarrassing in all the 20VT’s I owned, but it was a quirk I put up with. I’d pretend I was bond and using a smoke screen laugh
