Hi all,

Happy Friday!

So I had a new Cat back stainless steel exhaust fitted by PipeCraft in Basildon and very nice it is too see pics:) Much nicer sound and it's not held on by metal tie wraps like the previous one!

However the fitter noted that the cat box was staring to rattle internally when he was fitting the exhaust indicating it's breaking up and I had noticed a noise previously but just thought it was part of the exhaust. So in the near future I will need a new Cat, which he is happy to fit, but what he did show me was a photo of the cat box which he said was long for standard cat?

He will do some ringing around for me but I thought I would check here, do we have longer cat boxes than normal? would a replacement be smaller? His concerns were that it was that size for a reason and that a normal size cat may not pass the emissions and was thinking along the lines of two cats inline?

Any help appreciated smile

A normal 20v/t cat is just under 80cm long if memory serves

I don’t think they are available new, so you’ll probably end up with a pattern part from euro car parts

Personally I’d get a sport cat made up, less restrictive than the oem unit but still mot friendly

Second this. Adam's memory is correct, the whole thing is 75cm long. I just changed mine as it didnt pass MOT on emissions. I went with a 200 cell "race cat". CO of 0.95 with old cat, 0.01 with the new. Is's shorter, but I used step adapters wich adds a bit. Not meant as a recommendation, just wanted to clarify what worked for me. I needed the car for a upcoming roadtrip, and this cat was in stock locally.

EDIT: this one, model number CAT036M: http://www.redbackconverters.com/200-cpsi-oval-with-tube-ends/

Get the compact cat, I exchanged mine from the original. B&M part number is BM90379. Length 760mm, Weight 3.8kg. Can be purchased for less than £60.00 now as not much demand. mine now 4 years old and still looks new
