Sorry if this has been covered before, but couldn't find the answer anywhere.

I picked up a set of roof bars earlier this year from a fellow forum member. Does anyone have much experience of using them? I'm considering buying a canoe and using the coupe to transport it around on occasion. Is there a limit as to how long object can be on the roof of the coupe? Also, is weight likely to be an issue?

The canoe will likely be around 16 feet long (give or take a foot) and between 35 and 40kg. Legally I think it's fine, but the roof bars aren't the biggest, so just wanted to check. It gives me an excuse to keep the old girl on the road and in my ownership, so I'm hoping for a yes!

The 16VT owner handbook gives 80 kg as the maximum weight on the roof.

I imagine it will be the same for 20VT

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

I have used mine with a roof box plenty of times. It will mark the paint slightly.

You will not have any weight problems with a canoe.

Found this for length of items overhanging a car: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/overhanging-loads-on-vehicles/overhanging-loads
Essentially you can have 1 meter front and rear overhang with no issue. 1 to 2 meters has regulations, but only to the rear of the car and not to the front.

Thanks both. Going to bite the bullet and go for it.
