Probably the only reason I don't use the coup for daily driving is the fuel efficiency. Are there any mods that can actually increase this without loss of driveability? Technology has moved on a bit since the 90's. I was thinking mire efficient turbo, improved ecu mapping or spark plugs etc? 20vt 1997.

Recently the fuel became more expensive for me. Regular petrol in NL changed to E10, so now I need to use Shell V-power. So perhaps a mod so we can use 10% ethanol.
Best option would be to make your car lighter: no airco, carbon bonnet (bad for safety). Or put something under your gas pedal ...

Run base boost by connecting the 2 lower pipes on the EBV together. Nothing else is going to make much difference, other than maybe some weight reduction as jaaps2 mentioned.

Ok assuming 60l (tank is 63) that's around 28mpg. But I'm getting at least 31 at the moment!

If you drive at 60mph average, I've seen 37 MPG. The only reason I did it was because I had to. I was with my brother, his car had an issue and he was taking it easy to get back. Maintaining speed you should get better. Least braking or accelerating. Going round corners without braking. Takes some doing / planning I would expect, especially in normal traffic or around town.

OK but I was really talking about base fuel efficiency. Of course I can drive like a pensioner. I think the general answer is it cannot be improved significantly without significant compromise. No upgrades necessary then good!

for better fuel efficiency I would go for higher CR and improved volumetric efficiency to get more power of boost.. no boost no added fuel (= gasflowed head, straightened intake tract wilt lower loss piping/IC, more efficient turbo -even stock size, better intake cam.. on the other hand the same for exhaust - as much as possible freeflow) and properly mapped ECU... but I doubt that it could be improvements in liters per 100km ... but in normal use u can see some improvement.. and of course, u can see power increase.. but if its worth.. these mods arent cheap...

OK let me just re-mortgage the house and I think I may be able to achieve some additional fuel efficiency Sounds fun though if you have these skills!

In terms of one single mod, wouldn't a live remap (to iron out any fuelling blips etc) on existing set up be sufficient to improve economy? So looking at around £250 ish. Will usually improve drivability too. Flea's your man assuming he's still doing it.
Sounds like your mpg is pretty good already, but should be possible to achieve a bit more.
It certainly helped with mine.

Just a question - how often do people get LPG conversions in the UK? I don't know about the UK, but in Oz it used to be quite common, all the taxis used to be gas. I converted my 131, with the intention of supercharging it, but bought the coupe instead, and sold the 131. The cost of LPG has increased a lot, it's not a great deal cheaper than petrol here now, so I rarely see an LPG vehicle anymore.

I took my stock 20vt6 to Mr Flea a couple of years ago after she had been saved by Countrycruising. He recommended flea-and told me that a good live map makes the coupe come alive. I've always been wary of "remapping" over the years. Read all the horror stories...but my mpg in the coupe with the taps open was quite dismal. So I went to Mr Flea. He asked me how I wanted the car-and I suggested a "Fast GT Car. Good MPG. With good torque" Watching a live re-map with someone who really loves the coupe, on a rolling road, with the engine being worked is really something to watch, see and feel! Around 1.5 hours later I had a transformed coupe. A small up tick in performance at 268ish bhp from a stock motor. No fuel pump/mods. But in the road...wow. More performance then you could ever deploy. Torque everywhere-so you can drive the car 1st/3rd, 4th/6th etc off boost and not needing to tickle the turbo. Or deploy the turbo and see the countryside start to fly by. MPG readily improved. With full tank from middle UK -my last eu adventure found me pulling in for a considered fuel stop with a 1/4 of a tank of gas left at the border of Belgium in to Germany. So 3/4 to get through half of UK, across france, and down through the whole of Belgium. The return-including laps of the 'ring - found the car safely back home in blighty-with jut under 1/4 of a tank. Sounds too good to be true but I got an uptick in performance that you can feel clearly- AND lower fuel costs. Would recommend a live tuning session with Mr Flea without any hesitation. Your missing something if you have not done this imho. Regards MM

I agree, having your Coupé live mapped totally transforms how the car drives including increasing fuel efficiency, its the finishing touch and worth the remap costs.

agree with the above comments ,there is not really that much you do do "mechanically' to improve consumption ,losing weight would of course help, the other way as Mariner has shown ,is to basically make sure your coupe is running as healthy as possible,to get the most efficient engine a live re Map is is in my mind the best bang for buck answer, it gets the most out of every component in the engine and make sure its running at its healthiest . spending any money on new 'efficiency' mods would take ages to re coup the costs and I doubt you would see any more than 2-3mpg extra anyway .
live re map. lose weight (the coupe is a lardy old girl) ..would be the most efficient way forward in my mind
