Am about to install a replacement head unit (Blaupunkt SQR 46) which has both DAB aerial and a hands free mic. My question is, what's the best option for where to route those two things? After a quick look it would seem up the pillar post behind the trim for the aerial, but I couldn't see an easy way to put the mic somewhere unobtrusive, any guidance? Thank you! smile

Same thing but use the driver's side pillar. Put the mic up in the corner by the sun visor

Hello Che

I want to install as well the same Radio, for me it looks awesome and has buttons to equalize (bass and mids) quick and safe without look in to menus and parameters !

My questions are:

-How does it sound ?
-Do you need to install an amplifier ?
-Have you bought extra cables, adapters....

Thank you in advance !

Hi Aero,

It sounds superb as you’d expect with a Blaupunkt
No need for an extra amplifier, at least I had no need of one
No extra cables needed, plug and play

However, be aware that when you fit it to the standard wiring, it’ll drain the battery even when not in use, as it’s on a constant live feed (someone smarter than me can probably give a better explanation). When I get a moment I’ll change with wiring so the live feed is switched off when the car is so the stereo isn’t drawing power when not in use. I found a guide here on the forum on how to do it, just haven’t had time smile. For the moment I leave a battery trickle charger on when not in use anyhow so it’s not a problem, but you’ll find a flat battery if you fit the stereo and don’t use the car very often.

Hello CHE

-If its good for you then for me as well (I don't need "loud" i need quality)
-Plug and play... perfect !

THANK GOT you have answered me ! You just have avoid me a massive amount of problems with my house lord !

For sure the battery voltage would be dropped by the stereo and then...car alarm ON (of course at 03:00 in the morning) !!! and as a new owner (0% Knowledge) i have not idea what kind of alarm is fitted in my car and how to disconnect it. I can disconnect the battery itself but i have panic that without "energy" later my keys would not be recognized and could not start the car or turn the alarm off.

As a quick solution you could install a 12V switch (somewhere hided) to cut the direct feeding but im with you because your way sound more professional and "elegant".

If you find some information to resolve this Radio question please share it !

Thank you so much Che ! I really appreciate your information !

PS: What kind of speaker have you installed ? Brand and size. Would you recommend me something "special" ? (Im looking for a medium quality like 100 Euro-Punds for each speaker)

PSS:How have you did it ? because the radio has 4 channels (one for each door speaker) and we have 2 tweeters as well it means we have a total of 6 channels. (as you can see ive never installed a Stereo in my live :-)).

Hey Aero,

I have the car going into the workshop in a week or so to have a few small things tidied, and they are going to fit the hands free kit and sort the power supply, I'll send you the details once done. I just have the standard speakers, which sound fine to me, and all the speakers seemed to work when I plugged the new stereo in, although I'll be honest the car only got driven a few times before the weather turned and it was put away in the garage until the spring. I'll get them to take some photos of how they install the wiring for you as they go.
