When I had my first coop back in 2006 this forum was second to none with the help it provided, after I sold up I wasn't sure I would have come back to ownership if it hadn't have been for this forum still being active.

The car I bought in January was pretty good on the face of it, but within a month issues starting showing up, the main one being a random cutting out and non starting issue.

Joe very kindly helped me through some fault finding issues via YouTube videos I sent him of the car and helped Identify the battery in the boot being a big issue with Voltage drops and slow cranking.

Rog Relocated the battery to the front when I had it in with him but the issue persisted. Nigel had experienced a similar issue which pointed at the Chip possibly being at fault which he helped speak to me offline about and offered to lend me a spare ECU.

I believe the intermittent battery had caused the chip issues. So with suggestion of Joe he lent me a spare GTEC chip and the car was functional again (enough to move it about) and contacted Flea who managed to dig around on his old laptops get hold of the original Map for the car which was done around 2010 and he burned me a new chip which is now in place and the car is back to good running order smile

Without this forum, the car would probably be laid up somewhere knackered with not much of a clue what to do.

So thanks Thanks Joe, Nigel and Flea and the Forum ! smile

Great post and result Austin, that's why, though modest in size these days due to dwindling numbers/ownership, we keep the club running and encourage new (and old) owners to join and take advantage of the irreplaceable knowledge that's available - also to be aware of club events and meets for coupé owners to meet, drive and swap stories smile

Great to hear you got that result and can enjoy your Coupe again.
It’s posts like this that reinforce the benefit of being involved on the forum and the knowledge base it brings when we have the inevitable issues with running 25 year old cars smile

Great you're back up and running with the correct mapped chip, now you can "send it" with confidence laugh thumb

On the flip side, it shows you just how long it can take and how many people can sometimes need to get involved to solve niggling issues with these cars! Try doing a rolling resto while also heavily modifying a Coupé and it soon goes all sorts of crazy! silly

Every silver lining and all that laugh

To be fair it sounded as if it had been mucked about with extensively possibly by more than one person!

In the driving seat!
Had my coupe since 2006 and whilst not a regular visitor, value the forum greatly. Once the UK is easier to travel to, I will be visiting Joe for a replacement seat. I hope its is before 2024 when I will need my cambelts replacing !
