Opens and closes the purge valve which allows the fuel vapours in the charcoal canister to be burnt in the engine. Its a valve that is very close to my heart having spent the last month chasing down small air leaks - if it start to leak is screws up your fuel trims.

First the one way valve that scavenges crank case vapour using plenum pressure went faulty, great I found the fault and STFT came back to spec. A week later STFT went screwy again and it turned out to be the Purge valve leaking. I guess after 20+ years they wear out.

The OP did not make it clear it was a question to you. If I had known that was the case I would of stayed stum and left it for you smile

All questions open to everyone, Clanger. I don't think Jaaps was aiming it at me!

For what it's worth, it's the first I've heard of the purge system leaking, though I'm sure there must have been other cases.

Clanger, did yours have a physical leak (i.e. Cracked housing / nozzle) or was it internal?

Just for interest: for a 20vt ECU on the bench, connecting pins 2, 14, 19, and 24 to ground and pins 18 and 27 to +12v will allow sufficient operation to initialise comms with a widget or other tester via pin 55. It may also require pin 37 to +12v for full operation, but it's going to generate ever so many errors with nothing attached to any of the sensor inputs...

An in-depth look at the ECU connections - again, for the Marea, but it's basically the same - on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLEAebb66Bg

It's in Portuguese, but the auto translate on the subtitles seems to be pretty good.
